Hello I'm looking for some experienced help. I had a 2016 Explorer Sport with the STNC 2 radio. I now have the 2017 which has the SYNC 3 in it and I hate it. My question is if I get a 2016 SYNC 2 radio from another vehicle, can I replace my current APIM with the SYNC 2 APIM to get the version I like better?

I'm just curious as to what, if anything, you dislike about Sync 3. It can take a little time to get used to new systems. I'm experiencing the same thing going from Sync 3 to Sync 4.
As for your question, I'm not sure if the system is backward compatible. Hopefully, someone will have the answer.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I just don't like the visual set up. I also don't like that you can no longer change the wallpaper which Ford has some really snazy ones to personalize it. I would also put pics on there of my daughters and granddaughter. Overall I liked many things better with SYNC 2 over SYNC 3.
