My son called said his 2014 Explorer limited was running rough. Went over and removed engine cover and immediately saw where a critter had eaten thru a far left (first) fuel injector wire. V6 Engine

So we quick fixed it by disconnecting the battery, cutting and light solder the wire back together that was eaten thru and then tape. (just a quick fix until we can order a new pigtail.) Quick test drive and the car runs like new. Check engine light is now gone also.

PROBLEM is: The P0204 and P0304 codes will not clear, using my Autel scanner.

QUESTION: Should these clear out? Is it a scanner issue or do we still have an issue?

No I did not scan the vehicle prior to making the repair only afterwards.

Thanks

Both codes are for cylinder #4, P0204 is fuel injector error and P0304 is misfire so that make sense. Wonder is you could get a parts store to try to clear it if you show them that you have made a temporay repair? Had a Dodge Caravan that would store codes and after so many on off cycles it would delete the code, no check engine light was on.

As I understand things, "permanent codes" were implemented by law in 2009. Such codes remain visible until such time as the PCM verifies repairs were made. Mystery remains.

so did the codes clear after the required cycles?
Its my sons car and I will not have the new injector pigtail until Wednesday and wont be back over until thursday to check. Will advise back then and hopefully he has driven enough to please the reset in the system. Thanks
