Define large file? I don't think that is excessive size

Installed!

Josh, Is your Aerostar4.0 OHV or 4.0 SOHC?
I think I need to watch a video of someone using the FORScan program. I feel like I'm a long way from coffee time this morning when I decided to pursue this. Thanks for everyone's help. I'll keep a check here and if I find a video before someone else, I'll post a link!
Also I will accumulate the rest of the necessaries.

@Fix4Dirt Maybe a video of deleing PATS
google search
not sure i know how to do that entirely but if theres a writeup etc that you know of i bet i could figure it out. also if its irreversible id have to find a donor to do this on. will do some research on this since many say to "get a tune" so im wondering if forscan has a way... since there cant be something that proprietary about a tune i assume?

I think you'll find Forscan can only create the keys, not disable or delete pats. SCT or hp tuners will though.

I'm studying this on the Internet. I found a glossary of tuning terms so that I/we know what we are talking about.
Glossary of PCM tuning terms This is EcuTek's glossary.
Question: If I purchase the extended license ($12- for a year), can I use on home Laptop and the PC at work or do I have to purchase two separate licenses? That is the main reason that I want to buy a new Laptop for this. I would be able to keep everything that I'm doing in one place and take it back and forth from home to work.
Deleting PATS is one of the things that I want to be able to do, but another is this. Say you have a 1998 to 2001and even a 1997 5.0 powered Mountaineer or Explorer. Its engine has a lot of miles on it and is tired. You take it out to rebuild it and then because you want to tow with it, you decide that you want to put in a 347 stroker or build your original 5.0 in to a stroker. Now all of your fuel trims? and injector scaling and more, I'm new to this so i can't say what all would need adjusted. But everything in your old 5.0 PCM needs looked at and maybe adjusted. That is where I'm going with all of this.

I think you are correct about FORScan and the keys. I have about 5 windows open now and looking for the answer.
I read something just now:
"The solution is to have a 3rd party "reflash" your ECU to disable PATS functionality. Looks like it costs $300-$400 for this service."
So is that where the J2534 tool comes in to play?

I haven't used any tuning software, I'm learning along with you. What I'm reading is hp tuners is the easiest. There is a switch you check and it removes the pats. Hopefully someone with some experience joins this discussion.

I'm learning along with you as well
but I can say that I have trouble running forscan on anything other than windows 7 anything higher and there was problems
that maybe fixed though In a newer version
It's worth 5 minutes for you to look

I think that was a bug fix on a later version. I was looking into it when Racprops couldn't get a key for his version of Forscan.

The 16-year-old Motortrend 3-part article seems to apply to what we're wanting to be able to do as it has to do with 1998 to 2004 Ford OBD2 vehicles. I read about this device, Diablo Sport Predator U7146: 1998-2004 Ford Vehicles. I don't know how it works. Do you flash program with it? Or is it an add-on device that stays plugged in?
Another device TwEECer. I'm going to take a break from this.

afaik this and the sct both hold tune files and will flash them to the computer. when you buy it its probably canned tunes and there is stuff you can adjust in there like spark adv etc i dont think it stays plugged

also i do agree with that, but i tind forscan is more of a diagnostic dealer level tool, sjnce it can do most of what dealer tools can do, not sure if deslrs can program out pats (i imsgine they can but not 100% sure)
