So it seems i'm having an issue with my transfer case, and seeing as i don't need 4wd due to the fact i only take my explorer to car shows/stereo comps. Would unplugging the plug from the transfer case have the same effect as the BWM? Or should i do the BWM, or just pull the fuses and lose the front drive shaft? Sorry if this has been asked before, but i've been searching for awhile with no luck

If you just want to stay in 2WD, you can pull the two 4x4 fuses under the hood. That will have the same effect as the brown wire mod.

So simply unplugging the transfer case will not help?

you could also go behind the glove box and unplug the 4x4 control module alot easier seeing how you dont have lay down to unplug the t-case

You can unplug the fuses, unplug the t-case, or unplug the control module. All would have the same effect. Unplugging your fuses is the easiest solution. If you unplug your t-case, you will have a wire left hanging, and if it ever snags on anything and rips out, it will be a pain to get that fixed.

Ok cool..I did that problem solved...Also, just wondering how when people do the BWM, they can all of a sudden do burnouts(not like it's a big deal to me) but my 4.6 still won't light em up..or it could be cuz i'm on 24's..not sure..but my 01 blazer did them with ease on 22's..

Anyways, doing burn outs was not a goal of mine, just figured i'd try since i was forced to "change over" to 2wd only due to the issues i was having..

I did the brown wire mod. Not necessarily so I could do burnouts, more so I could have control of when I am in 4WD and when I'm not. There was nothing more annoying than when I would make a slow sharp turn into a parking spot and the 4WD would kick in and my car would hop like a low rider. Not only is it annoying, but it's bad for your transfer case. I also like to drive in 2WD when I offroad until I get stuck, than hit it into 4WD. Just makes it more fun.
I have 265/75R16's and I can light my tires up easy with the brown wire mod. When you run in auto 4x4, the car runs in 2WD until it senses the back wheels kick out. Once they do, it automatically engages the front differential to help reduce tire spin. The only way you'll be able to do a 4WD burnout is in the sand, definitely not on pavement. So if you remove the 4x4 fuses or disconnected the transfer case, you should have no problem doing a burnout.
You say you were having issues...exactly what issues were you having? My 4WD had issues for over 2 years and I finally just figured out what was wrong with it after dozens of headaches. If I can't help you, I'm sure someone else on here can.

I had the "shutters" while making low speed turns..found out it was very common..took it to the dealership..they put a whole new rear end in it and also new rear wheel bearings, as they were shot..long story short after i left there all was good for a few miles then all of a sudden i would get a HARD clunking and my 4wd light would come on..had it towed straight back to ford..after sitting in the lobby for 3 hours they came back with "we can't replicate the problem" and told me just to drive it..so i parked it for awhile only taking it on short trips to the store and what not..but now the show season is upon us i had to get it road worthy again..because i drive as far as 4 hours to car shows/stereo comps. Luckily pulling the fuses seem to have fixed that issue for now..

I will add, when i'm on wet pavement, it will do a burn-out on tap..on dry pavement all it does is rev up..

thanur 24's are too hevay

if u can burn out on wet pavement and not dry ur 24's are too heavy or ur tires have a hell of a grip to em but seems like from what ur describing ur wheel may be too heavy which in the long run can damage ur cv axles or ur transmission basically ur whole drive train i have 22's on my before off road tires and i was told by a mechanic during an alignment that big wheels hurt mor that bigger tires cuz its solid metal trying to turn as opposed to tires which can be deflated if too heavy and it can harm ur power steering pump also

Good morning. I have read this discussion and have a question. I want to know that if I disconnect the wiring to the 4wd module and the transfer case and remove all of the front drive train, will I have problems? I am wanting to convert my 05 AWD/4wd to a 2wd. I live in west Texas and want to make my 05 more simple and lighter. THanks. It seems to me that it is rather easy to do and the ECM or PCM will not have any problems with my work.
