Im getting an unusual smell from my Explorer. Its an 91 EB 4x4 automatic transmission. Recently while out climbing and descending a grade, I got this peculiar smell. I was thinking that maybe the brakes were causing this weird smell since they were being used in a harder than usual setting. I recently changed my front brakes for some better duralast brakes. While at stop lights yesterday, the smell came back. I got a smell of a burned clutch/brakes. Being that my truck is an automatic, can the smell be coming from the tranny? Truck has no problem shifting. Or would the rotors produce this awkward smell?

Every year when they switch to "summer blend" gas I get the "stink", could just be that.

Makes it smell like something is real hot. Sound familiar?

Ok, you set yourself up for this one!

"It only smells that way when your in it"

I think its coming from the brakes

Yea, if their new there gonna stink for a bit.

You should'a smelt mine after I ran over a pan full of trans fluid, kicking up and everywhere right at the right caliper. WHOOPS! forgot to pull the pan out after changing the transfer. Duh

Took 3 weeks and about a gallon of brake cleaner to burn that off!
