Updated Starting problems(i moved)

The battery and battery cable connections are always the first things you check when you have a no-start. Thought you'd done that

Yes, I did!

It's hard to explain, how the problem accured.

Inorder for me to add the wires to the neg post, I had to take it off and undue the screw. Anyway, im not sure how to explain it.

Everything is rewired else where now, so this should help big time?!!?

Well that wasnt the problem...

All seemed fine for a few days till I just went out to start the truck. Crank and Crank for about 3-4 min then the engine finally turned over! I thinking either the batt is dying or something else? All the connections look fine and the Starter seems fine too? It's cranking good, just wouldnt turn over at first. The batt had a good charge, what gives?

Oh and the Fuel pump didnt bleed off over night, so the FP should be good!

What do you guys think now?

Im very frustrated....

Ok, I just went back out to Wawa. Same problem all over again! It's starting up now, but running like $hit!!

Could a batt cause all of this?

Check engine light came on again, but Im not good with the scanner I have...

DonM-
Mike im afraid i may not understand your directions 100%? Are you saying the computer harness was loose? You didnt tighten the Harness screw enough or what?

Don - I was able to cause my superchip to move by wiggling the harness going to the PCM. The chip was sitting against the back of the cavity that the PCM slides into. Occasionaly a bump or whatever caused the chip to lose contact with the PCM - not complete loss of contact though.

I am going to machine a block to give the chip somthing to rest against and not allow the chip to touch the back of the cavity that the PCM is in.

The chip is out now. Once I make the block it will go back in.
:)

Thanks for clearing that up Mike.

I checked the chip the other day, it's just as tight as when I first put it in. I moved the harness around while the engine was running, NO change!

Im thinking the batt is loosing it's charge? It's pouring rain all day, so I really cant work on it. :(

Tomarrow I will see if it starts, if not, im gonna hook some cables up! This should tell me if the batt is loosing it's charge??!

Ok, batt tested bad! Picked up a new one, and hooked it up. First crank the engine starts a runs good for 10sec, then it starts running like crap again, wanting to stall.

Turned the key off, and tried again. Still the same, it cranks over now, but runs like crap!

I noticed the fuel pump kept running, im thinking bad Fuel Pump Relay?

Ok, I checked the Fuel Pump relay. I think i checked the right one? It was a 30amp fuse? Looked like a big fuse to me! Not sure if It was the FPrelay or Not? But I checked all of them, they all look good.

I tried starting it again, start up and runs fine for about 5 sec or so, then the engine cuts off. Seems like the engine isnt getting Fuel?

Like i said before, fuel pressure was fine. Maybe a bad FPR?!!?

anyone want to chime in here????

I know you said the IAC is new, but make sure it's plugged in. Same for you Mass Air Sensor. Check for vacuum leaks too. As long as you hear the whine from the FP when key is ON before starting, s/b OK.

Problem found, it was the Chip! Not sure what is wrong with it, but Brian is sending me out a new one! :)

I double checked all the connections, took the chip out and the engine started right up. Put the chip back in a little later and no start. Pulled it back out and no problem since!

For 1 month off and on, it would cause problems. Some days it would start with no problem, other days it wouldnt start or start but run like crap. The last few days it was really bad, I couldnt get the engine to run right untill I took the chip out.

Anyway I hope the new Chip doesnt give me anyproblems? If so, then I guess the problem is on my end?

DonM - Good to hear you found the problem. ;) I am waiting for it to warm up outside a little before I put the chip back in. I need to give the chip a little more room in the back of the PCM to slide back. I don't want the problem to come back.
Good Luck

Yeah, im waiting for the new chip to arrive now.

I too had problems with the pcm fitting back in the slot. About a 1/4-1/2 was sticking out because of the chip!

I peeked the slot and saw a metal bar that was blocking it from going back any further. I guess i could just cut it out?

I was also thinking about useing metal washers where the two screws go! That might help?

Well, new chip was installed on Thursday. This morning i had more starting problems! :( It took a couple cranks to get the engine over. Just a little while ago, I went out to start her up and it started but ran like CRAP. Shut it off and then started it back up again, with no problem. The first chip was taken out on Sun, so that was four days with no chip and no problems. Then the new chip goes in and two days later it all comes back.

I called Brian and left a message, I'll wait to see what he thinks? I guess taking the chip out and leaving it out for a week or more might be a good idea!?

Im not so sure it's the chips fault now? Im thinking it's still a fuel problem? Pressure checked out ok, but I guess the FPR could still be sticky at times? Fuel pump is good! It had good pressure and didnt bleed off over night.

If anyone would like to suggest some things, please do so. :D

signed,

Frustrated as hell
