I am looking to get a little bit more power out of my explorer.. There's a couple of things I was looking at..
The first thing, computer/chip mods... This method appeals to me because I'm not very mechanically inclined, but very technically inclined.. I found this,..

Looks like it just plugs into the socket on the firewall and plug the existing wire harness into it and instant HP gains will ensue,.. Too good to be true? Do these work? Anyone have any experience with these types of devices?
The second option I was looking into was intake and/or exhaust.. Does my model of explorer typically see a substantial improvement from intake and exhaust upgrades? Or am I going to pay $400-$600 and get a nice 3 HP improvement?
I would just really like to know what "first step" type upgrades will have the greatest cost/performance ratio?
I have not done anything to my explorer yet and it remains stock,.. At stock my explorer gets about 239HP.. I'd like to get closer to 300.. Is that realistic? And what would I need to do to achieve that?
Oh, and one last stupid question,.. Like I said before, I'm not very mechanically inclined.. From what I gather, intake upgrades simply allow more air flow to the engine which in turn effects the combustion or something to that effect.. So,.. what would happen if I simply unbuckled my intake air box and left it open? Would this have a similar effect to a K&N intake upgrade?
