Upgrading 2013 FPIU radio to touchscreen GPS?

By dash panel you mean the IPC? Weird. The IPC should lit up even without the radio unit. Maybe some wiring issue or short wires?

Figured it out and got it working finally. I'm gonna have to do it all again eventually because the radio itself isn't great, but at least I know what to do now.

Hey there. Can I ask what you ended up doing?

I just picked up a 2013 FPIU and it has the base radio (no nav, no Sirius, no Sync). Ford dealers are afraid to touch it - telling me to "just go to BestBuy or CarToys." I doubt either of those places will touch it either, so it looks like I'm left with the option of getting used Sync modules off eBay. Just curious what you did. Thanks.

Metra sells dash kit for a double din headunit. Works pretty well. The wiring is pretty straightforward. I used solder seal wire connectors I got on Amazon.

Thanks, Volksjager. I did some more research after my initial post and found Jason's (FLVPMODS) post about adding Sync to a non-Sync FPIU. Looks like it's a non-starter unless you've got time and an electronics test bench. So I ordered the Metra 5847 kit with harness and have fingers crossed that it will work.

Appreciate the note.

Which head unit did you go with?

I went with Sony XAVAX1000 from BestBuy, since installation is free with the radio. Only took them 2 hours to install, and they warranty the installation for the life of the vehicle.
