Upgrading hitch on '02 XLT?

I just purchased a used '02 XLT Explorer that came with the standard class II hitch (no tow package). I would like to upgrade to a class III hitch since most hitch accessories have a 2" mount. Can I upgrade to a class III hitch? How difficult and expensive would this be?

It should be fairly easy. I can't comment on how much it would cost to do but it can be done.
