anybody upgraded the power wires under the hood in an explorer before? the alternator to batt + wire, and both ground wires? i can get the ground wires but the alternator to batt wire seems to disappear under the intake in my sohc motor and i could use some insight. thanks!

Take the plastic off the engine and see where she goes.. It's got to go somewhere. Usually from the alternator to a voltage regulator and to the battery. Some alternator's have built in regulators so it just goes to the battery. (in some round about way.) but basically, track down the path of the wire and replace it. You might have to take some stuff apart to get to it all though, but it shouldn't be anything major...

yeah i took the plastic off...that didnt seem to help too much. youre right about one thing...its roundabout as hell. is there a purpose to its roundaboutness or can i run my 0/1 gauge in a more efficient ($$$) route?

You could if there's nothing inbetween the two.. If you track the length of the wire and it just takes the 'long way' to the battery, you could probably shorten that up.. But if it connects to another device, it would still need connected. Alot of cars are different and I havn't really found where mine goes on my explorer yet so, I'm not for sure. But that's something I'll be doing later this summer once I get some other vehicle's out of the way...
