1997 explorer limited
We have a 97 ltd explorer. It has a tinny rattle in the front of engine. We cant figure out what it is. Its there at idle, gets louder when u accelerate. Not sure if this is linked but it has developed a vibration in the engine when it hits about 2500rpms
Our Explorerer has 150,000kms engine runs perfect have discussed problem with local mechanics they have no idea ..... could it be something to do with the timming chain arrangment.
Would really appreciate any input readers have as need to know wether this is something that could end up costing huge $ or doing more damage.
THANKS:cool:

I think I remember reading about a Ford recall about this problem several years ago. You can call Ford and ans about a recall for that problem. They have been good about telling me what recalls were in effect for my explorer when I called. (I called Ford directly - not a dealer - look on their website at www.ford.com for the phone number) The noise was only on some engine designs and if my memory is correct, was/is caused by a timing chain tensioning part.

thanks will see what info we get from the ford site but as we are in australia dont think we can get the same sort of recall info that you get in the US
