Urgent Issues

The DPFE has about a 100% failure rate. If you ask any parts person they know.

The EGR its self is pretty hearty. You can clean the carbon out of it If you are strapped for cash. The trouble with carbon is that it has a higher melting temperature than anything in the universe and nothing really dissolves it without messing up the diaphragm in the EGR.

If you are broke just clean it out with soap. If you have mony use the new one.

I used to use explorers as my company trucks and gained some experience with typical problems.

Just use soap , what about like a carb cleaner or something to clean it out , or is that not good using that

Unfortunately strapped for cash for a little while , mabye by next week or something i can get one , just needed something in the mean time

So if i go ahead and by the sensor , should i automatically thinking about replacing the hoses like the other explorer guy said or what

The diaphram and seals are rubber and you will only shorten the life of it that way.

I don't have my old one to visualize what you are, but unless you actually see thick carbon don't worry.

The problem is in the DPFE. If not I'll buy you a beer.

How in the h___ did you get that thing off (with shade tree tools) if I may ask? "the EGR from the rusty exhaust tube"

Ok good to know , your only an hour or so from me so ill let you know if its not that, i actually used to live in jacksonville a few years ago

Should i just leave the egr alone , or would actually soaking it in the soap help with the carbon a bit , and is this talking dunking it in warm or hot water with soap and does it really matter what kind of stuff

I just used some wd-40 a angle wrench for the 2 little bolts on the actual egr with putting a good amount of force on it to loosen them , and for the big bolt that connects the egr to the tube i just used some vise grips

A little pain to get off at first , but eventually got it with putting alot of pressure on it

Don't f w/ it! replace the sensor. Thats the rectangular gadget with two hoses, healed on by two screws near the intake. Change it in the parking lot of the parts store. Have them check the codes for free at the parts store.

Glad I could help!

Yes thanks for all the info , gonna return the egr and get the sensor , and then if any codes go off it should only be for the egr valve itself

Should i even worry about cleaning the old one with the soap , i mean will it help alot or what

In real world terms the best way to loosen the nut at the bottem of the EGR is with PB Blaster prnitrant for two days. Spray it every four hours.

Then you need two open end plumbers wrenches. One with the open end at 45deg and the other at 15deg or so. You need an open end and you only get a few degrees.

You don't need all that **** trust me.

Yes its smoother now , but then is there really anything i can do to fix the old one , cleaning it very well or what

Or once its stuck open , its just best to get a new one , im trying to fix versus replace , normally not this stingy but currently i need to be , so if theres a chance to fix it so it wont stick open then i would definitely like to know
did u try putting a vac pump on it to see if it holds air if it dont its no good and if it dose just clean it good wit crab cleaner

The only time I seen crap in an EGR is in the old pre Explorer 5.0 mustangs.

The egr on your car is a pita to get off and if i'm lying to you, I will buy you and your girlfriend a steak. Not Outback but Ruths Chris.

Im not going to have to buy one because, i'm right.

How many miles are on yours, 120k. ? It's an easy fix.

accept the fact that this problem is mucheasier than you thought.

egr

I been working in this code dtc 336 EEC-IV is the code hook up its a 95 explorer xlt and it keeps giving me egr sensor circuit voltage is higher then expected and exhaust pressure high i have put a new one of this sensor on 3 times and keeps giving me the some code again and again i was just wounding if u knew wat it could be doing it and the cats are off it gives the same code too and would the DPFE do this to

Being that It's a '95 and OBD 2 system, This one rare case where I would recommend you talking to first generation experts. In the year '95 the explorer was mostly first Genny technology. The accuracy and simplicity is best suited in that realm.

Thanks brother.

Well it might also be the egr itself , because what i said in an earlier post on here was then when i replaced my egr valve then my vehicle was alot smoother

But ill see what happens , never know maybe after the 2nd time restarting the computer it did the trick , i doubt it but never know , and if check engine comes back on gonna have it rechecked again and if the same code comes up then gonna return the egr and get the sensor

Also , i have 172,000 miles on it

This is what it is right

Does the hoses go bad often , the local parts store might have something that i can borrow , and if i went ahead and did that how much pressure am i looking for it to hold

Yes, that is the DPFE.

You most likely have a wiring problem. I believe there is only three wires that run from the DPFE to the PCM I bet one of them has a short in it.

Well i got a new thing , not sure if its something simple or not , but ive noticed when driving between 50 and 60 mph i hear a pinging/ratteling sound , almost like bad gas or something

First off theres no tools stuck in there , i already checked , but its odd because it doesnt always happen but when it does happen its only between 50 and 60 , could it be spark plugs or something , not sure how old they are , i only got this vehicle 3 weeks ago
