Hey everyone,

I have been fighting what I think is a heat soak issue, I have a supercharger under the hood so I know the why. The question I have is, I have heard rumors of v8 radiators helping since they are thicker. Also since I run an 8x11 bm cooler, should I be ok in terms of not using the radiator as a heat exchanger?

Nothing? No one has ever used a v8 radiator on a v6? Does anyone know where a 4-core can be bought?

I think I have a link to the desert cooler rad at the cheapest price on my laptop at work. I'll look tomorrow for more info.

Here you go Phix,
Im not sure what you will do for a cooler thermostat though.

I have hear rumors of a 160 or 165 tstat and I know where to get 180's local.

180's are common. 160's though? I hope you can find one. Maybe even try that before changing the rad.

I ran their one core all aluminum manual rad and a 180* tstat and had no issues. I also run a separate trans cooler, not one built into the rad.I think there is other issues, not the size of rad.are you running a efan and which one? What are the on and off temps?also if you go to a three core a efan may not fit or at least a efan that should be used would not fit

160* is way to low, that motor should run at or about at 180 minimum

I have a black magic 180 extreme. I was worried about the 3 core not fitting with my current fan. Thoughts? I agree with the 160 just seeing exactly what's options are, I think a 180 will help.

Also currently I still run my trans lines off the rad. I have a b&m 8x11 cooler w/ mobile1 synthetic ever since it was rebuilt. I have always wondered if I would run cooler temps bypassing the rad all together for the trans cooler?

I personally think the fan is your problem.what are your on and off temp settings? Also have you upgraded your alt or running a smaller pulley on it?

Stock alternator pulley, and fan is always on.

Then that's both of your problems. You need to upgrade to at least the newer 130 amp alt and a smaller pulley.if the fans runs all the time its not pulling enough cfms.upgrading your charging system will provide more amps and allow it to run faster but still doubt it pulls enough.

What would you recommend in size on the pulley? I have taking my alternator out of a hot truck down pretty good these days.

The alt you can get outa the junk yard or buy new.its from a 97+ and is 130 amps

130 on the left

Pulley 1.8 but search sure you can find cheaper and a new belt would be needed also

So here is the thing, I have a "high output" alternator from mr.alternator. When I picked it up from them they said it was rated at 200amps. Now I also have a 4g power wire for this alternator. I could swear that is the very same alternator in my truck.

Could be.I don't trust any aftermarket alt.I habe mine built and wanna see the amps.just throw the smaller pulley on then, but if you do have a better alt you should only see high heat or low amps at idle or low speeds.

Well what I really don't like about this alternator is with my fan, audio system (1000 watt) and hids. I have an idle down issue at night... During the day it's fine, if I put it in neutral the the battery gauge doesn't drop. Though in drive it will get down to 12 and sometimes almost to stall out. My idle is roughly 800rpm or just under.

The smaller pulley will help with all that.

O one more thing.my alt guy said you can't get the guts in side the old case (4 holes) to make over 130-150.you have to use the newer larger 130 case (2 holes) and even at that he said he could fit the guts to make over 250 reliably and efficient. He makes them at around 220 amp (seen with my own eyes)I had a DB electric one that was 220 I thought and paid for.it blew up and took it to him to rebuild and it was in the small case.he point it out right away and after he opened it up it was just a stock 90 alt!!:(

So if you don't have the larger 130 case then you know your not really putting out over 150 MAX.you can tell them easily apart by the holes in the front of the case;)
