On Gen 2 X's, are the front driveshafts the same for V8 and V6 setups?

I also understand that early on, Ford used the double cardan style front shafts (96 for sure) and then later changed them. Anyone know when this happened?

I've heard that the stock Ford double cardan style is the best shaft to run with the Superlift 4" lift. Heard of vibration problems with the Superlift shafts from a few sources.

Can anyone shed any light on any of this?

Thanks.

bump...

Somebody has to know something about this.

Let me go crawl under the trucks. Be right back! :D

Here's the scoop. The two driveshafts look identical. They both have tags on them with part numbers and this is what they read:

'98 Sport 4405 "F77A 4A376 BB"

'00 AWD 4404 "XL24 4A376 BA"

So the PNs are very similar. I don't know if the difference is in the year, or model, or transfer case or what.

MORE INFO:

I just went out again and measured.

From weld to weld on the shafts:

V8 = 23 7/16"
V6 = 24 1/16

So the V6 appears to be a little longer. But tomorrow I'll measure from tcase to diffy as the way they are made might be a little different. They still could be interchangable.

Forgot my awesome pic! :eek:

Section, did you get the t-case to diffy measurement? I'm sure if the shafts measured different, then the t-case to diffy will probably measure differently.
