Hey, I need to locate the Vacuum modulator on my a4ld, I just got a B&M Shift improver, I went to install it, and either the line is hidden pretty good, I'm retarded, or I don't know.. Any help is appreciated.

The modulator is located on the passenger side of the transmission. To get at it you have two options. One, if you are planning on replacing the entire exhaust anyway, you can get at it from under the vehicle. I think that the way most people do it is to go at it from the top. There is a access panel under the carpet in front of the center console. To gain access to it, you must remove the entire console, the passenger side seat, and pull the carpeting back enough to give you access to the panel. The panel has 4 bolts that hold it in place. Once you get the panel out, you will see the top of the transmission. The modulator is held in place by a bracket that is also used to hold the cat heat shield in place. Remove the bracket and slide it out of the way, then SLOWLY pull the modulator out. Be sure not to lose the pin that goes inside of the modulator as this goes into the new one. Put the pin in the new one and lube the base of the modulator with some vaseline, then slide the modulator in place and put the bracket back on. Do a search of the forums and you will find a write up with more detailed information. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your help! Fortuantly, I don't need to remove the Vacuum Modulator, I just need find it, then watch the vacuum line coming from it untill I can find a spot to put a vacuum Tee in there. I thought I found it, but it was on the drivers side. I think I found the vacuum line on the passenger side, but the line felt a little to stiff to be a vacuum line, but I could be wrong.

One more question, Is the vacuum line accessable from under the truck? I think I found it, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any pictures of it?

There is a "hard" line that goes from the modulator to the engine. This hard line on each end has a rubber line. One end of the line attaches to the vaccum tree on the intake and the other goes into the modulator. You can get at the vaccum line from under the vehicle. It will be on the passenger side of the trans just to the left(from under the truck) of the cat. Just look up there and you will see the rubber line going into the modulator and connecting to the hard line. Hope this helps :)
