Where is the vacuum source on a 1997 Ranger? I have defrost only, have read about following the vacuum line and found no problems. When I connect a vacuum pump to the lower vacuum line on the vacuum globe and create a vacuum and my HVAC controls work fine.

The upper vacuum line connects to something on top of the intake manifold that has a steel braided line going down the other side of the engine. Is this the source of the vacuum. If so, what would cause this to not create a vacuum?

My diesel has a vacuum pump, but if I understand correctly, gas engines create thier own vacuum.

I've moved your thread to the Ranger section. There is a part on the intake manifold called the vacuum tree or the "octopus" connector. The engine creates its own vacuum. You most likely have a crack on a hard plastic vacuum line going into a servo actuator piston.

Thanks,

I looked all over for any type of vacuum connection. Can you tell me exactly where this is?
