I recently purchased a valentine 1 radar detector, which I'm going to use on my bike as well as in my '02 Moutaineer. Does anyone have pictures/how-to for an install (with hard-wiring) in and Explorer/Moutaineer? I'm looking for info on routing power wire, location for remote display (if needed), what wire to tap into, etc.

Thanks

what I did was use some regular telephone wire w/ the valentine plug that goes into the cigarette lighter. I used the aux cig lighter by the passenger's feet. Ran wire through the dash, up the passenger side piller, along the ceiling where it meets the glass so that it ended up right next to the rear view mirror. That is where I have it mounted. Might sound like a lotta work, but took maybe 15 minutes. I wrapped the extra telephone wire around the cig ligter adapter (only as about 6" or so). I can get pics tomorrow if you want.

if you really want the wire secretive, I'm sure you could tap into the power wire going to the radio... the Valentine 1 uses almost no juice.

Some pics would be WAY cool!

Whenever you get a chance, some pics would be great. Thanks.

Sorry for taking so long... I took photos w/out the actual unit up there so you could see exactly where stuff was.

It goes under the dash, behind the glove compartment, and then up through the pillar. To snake it from the piller to the center console takes some patience... it is a tight fit. Also, where the wire is on the cieling, get some kinda light tacy staff to hold it up there. (there is no place to put it b/c the liner doesn't folder back). I thinki'm going to get some of that 3m stuff they say that doesn't leave marks on walls.

I'll do permanent wiring over the summer sometime when I have more free time, however this is a really easy/quick alternative.
