I've got an '07 Mountaineer with an aftermarket remote starter. It's a Valet 561r. It uses a module that does not require you to use an extra key. We got it at Ultimate electronics. I've had to take it back 2 times. After they installed it it worked for about a week then it would just click when you tried to remote start it. After I took it back it worked for a day. The last they replaced the module and it worked a few weeks. Now it is doing the same thing again. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with thier remote starter. I'm hoping there is something simple they are overlooking. They said this is the only explorer/mountaineer they have had trouble with.

Check to see if there is a "tach" wire going to the motor somewhere. This wire will go through the firewall, and go to a fuel injector or coil pac wire. I know that when its colder out here in minnesota it take more for my truck to fire on its remote start (an audiovox).

I know there are good modules out there, but being an installer i still like to burry a key.

PS with a remote start installed there is ways of programing an UN-CUT factory key, as long as you have two original key to do so.

I had another key programmed and had the guys switch the module to one that uses a key. I was impressed that the dealer, Dave Sinclair LM in St. Louis, only charged me the price of the key ($26.00 with tax).

The installer at Ultimate Electronics said that a lot of the keyless modules they get do not work. Hopefully I won't have any problems now that a key is burried.
