Took truck in to shop ...mechanic told me he would have to go into engine to see what the damage is ...he thinks it might be a broke valve spring....the engine has over 200,000 miles on it and if it something more serious it wont be worth the repair.....my question is if I did the work to see if the spring is broke what all is involved....will removing the valve cover on the drivers side let me see the springs...I have access to a shop and tools thanks

it depends on the other damage. If the valve fell into the cylinder you'll have major damage to the valve and piston. If the spring broke and the valve it ok, you may be able to replace the spring without too much trouble. They make toold to hold the valve up while you remove the retainer and spring.

I agree about the other damage ....I just didn't want to pay the mechanic to go into the engine and find out too much damage has occurred ...I would rather spend that money on a drop in engine.....thanks
