Ive got a 2000 Mountaineer that has premium sound (at least). Its got the sub and amp in the back cabin. Now a friend gave me their old HU which does not have remote wire for the amp turn on, (no biggie, i wired it to the accessory wire) and it does not have any subwoofer controls, but it has a sub output wire. When i wire it up i have 0 control of the amp and it feels as if it runs at max settings so when i get the volume to about 50-60% the bass starts getting bad and distorts out everything. I bought the Scosche FAI 3A thing for premium sound and i have the scosche wire adapter to install aftermarket radio. Every way i tried wiring the FAI3A it doesnt allow me to control the sub under any circumstances or any possible way to wire it up. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do with my current aftermarket HU which is full of features and nice although it appears to be a chinese knock-off but works great but be able to control my factory sub?

I had the same problem when I tried to install my aftermarket HU in my '94 with JBL Premium Sound. I ended up taking it to Best Buy and had the guys their hook it up. Sounds a lot better after they wired it all up. Im not sure if there is any real way to wire it up so you have complete control over the stock sub alone off the amp because the same amp powers all of you door speakers as well...

Hey

Actually the amp only controls the sub as its rigjt beside it. Ive traced the
wires to verify only the sub s powered by the amp.

Hmmmm......yurs must be wired different to mine. i was told at Best Buy and the Ford dealership that the amp powers the door speakers and the stock sub. Fords said i couldnt control the stock sub with the afteermarket HU no mater what i do. When i turn of my 1000 wat amp to my 2 12" subs and only have stock stereo on the door speakers sound really distorted when bass is up. its the way Ford wired everything up. I think yur best bet if yoy want bass is to get aftermarket subs or sub and amp

Ive actually got a aet of kicker l7s and a roxkford amp but till I get it completely ready just using the stock stuff.

Ahh gotcha...yeah it dove me nuts only having the stock setup in my X. It works out nice when you get the main system installed. I leave my bass on the HU on the lowest setting and and tweaked the amp and since the stock premium sound has only mids and highs in the doors it sounds great.
