I recently changed the whole thermostat housing on my 2000 4.0 SOHC and the bypass hose because of a leak. Everything seemed cherry till I put it all back together and it would barely run.

I've checked for vaccum leaks, I did the test on the MAF sensor with a multimeter. I really stumped and dont' want to start replacing parts that don't need it. I pretty sure that this problem was created by me replacing the housing.

Here's a list of the things I unplugged:
-MAF sensor
-Throttle bottle or IAC
-Both temperature gauges
-Crankshaft postion sensor
-Vaccum lines
-Alternator
-Battery

I'm leaning towards the CPS and the temperature gauges. The plugs are identical and they could be switched but I can't imagine that causing such a bad problem. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Did you take the intake off to replace the housing?

I didn't take the intake manifold off. I wanted to avoid that. I've been looking at the IAC and I just tested it. The solenoid doesn't seem to be working right. I'm headed to the parts store for that and a Crank position sensor.

Figured out you can't switch the temperature sensor wires because the guide is offset on one of them. ;)

crank position sensor will give you a no start not a miss.

i would double check your vacuum lines.

iac will cause a no start, but part throttle should run normally.

Well low and behold changed the TPS, Crank position sensor, and the IACV. No luck. Checked around the intake manifold again because I had thought of removing it and found a vaccum line off. Put it on and it ran beautiful. Very happy but feeling stupid at the same time.

I'll be returning the IACV and TPS but leaving on the CPS cause it was a pain to put on.

Thanks for everyones help.

wait ur parts store lets ur return electronics!? o riellys doesnt =(

I bought some parts from Oreillys and some from Autozone. The IACV and TPS came from Autozone and they gave me cash in my hand. I imagine we would be alot more careful when buying parts if they didn't let you return them. ;)
