So today I was working on installing neon lights under my dashboard. I was drilling some holes but NOT near wires. Infact I can fell my hole and there is no wire around it. I drilled the hole and everything was fine but as I went to screw in my light (screw was not even into the hole yet), I heard this clicking noise. When I got my head out from under the dash, I noticed it was in sink with the theft light on the consule. Then I went back under and the clicking is coming from a black box that looks like fuse box. When I depress the break, it stops. I then disconnected the negative from the battery and it again stopped.

I am worried I really messed something up. Could I have hit something with my head. There is very little room. Anyone know the problem.

The truck is a 98 Explorer Sport.

Run it is about to explode from the time bomb anti-theft device feature when playing with the wires under the dash, the black box is a bomb.... :)

Seriously though look to see if you may have bumped any fuses or the signal switch relay.

Make sure check again to see if you drilled any wires as if any are now grounding into each other then a short can/may occur and cause something to come and off or in worse case catch fire if very bad and no fuse shorts out first.

Double, Triple check everything.

I just did double and triple check everything. It sounds a lot like this. My battery is very low. The power locks work but the truck hasnt started for days, without a jump. Could it be just because the battery is so low and it was a considence that it happened while I was working on it? It it exsactly what IZwack is explaining. Post #5.

I know when my battery gets low funny things start happening. For instance, the doors will start locking and unlocking by themselves.

OK just went out side and turned key to on, the theft light goes on solid and the clicking stops. Can not start truck because of low battery. The voltage reader inside reads almost none. No lights or switches inside truck work.

Charge battery on trickle for at least 12 hours minimum and then see if the problem stops before you do any work on the vehicle.

I bet if it was full battery your anti-theft would be honking its horn and flashing you. :)

Your probably right. When I hooked a neon up to the cig lighter it flashed with the anti-theft light. Don't know if this helps or not (?).

Hmm i wonder if that caused the anti-theft to come on incase someone was trying to re-wire something to steal the vehicle and it triggers the anti-theft system.

I would unhook what you did and charge battery like i mentioned and see if all is OK for a day or so. Then again try with your lighting setup.

Ok, jumped it and sound went away. Wow, am I relieved!!! I have it on the trickle charger for the night, is 12 volts ok?
