I have not been on for a while, but i thought i would share with all of you a problem that a lot of 04 explorers seem to be having more and more frequently, and yes i am sorry if this is a repost like I said I have not been on in a while and have not had time to check all of the posts I have missed. This may be a service bulletin on the Ford site by now for 04's, but I am going to waste my time anyway.
I picked up an 04 X about 2 years ago with 18,000 miles (good deal so I parted with the 97 sport). Well about 3 weeks ago it started studdering while the engine decelerated down to idle while come to a stop. After many many trouble shoots and calls to Ford by my Ford master tech friend and his service writer and other techs he stubbled across what was making my car do this. (the reason he found it is because 2 other techs had 2 other X's in that week with the same problem and after they tore one down about 1/3 of the way they realized the problem that Ford did not previously known about.
Apparently 04 x's with the 4 liter SOHC are prone to having the rubber around the engine dampener wear out and fail causing the engine to shake and low idle at slow deceleration, and pull no codes while looking through the vehicles computer. Just thought I would let all of you know cuz it gave my friend and other techs a huge headache trying to figure it out.
