Hello-

Just curious if anyone knows what could be making my explorer somewhat vibrate when I turn my steering wheel to the left?
It makes like a rubbing sound and sometimes vibrates when I turn it, pull out of a parking spot, etc.
It is fine when I am just driving regular but feels like a rubbing or vibration on the driver's side when I turn.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Do a search on TSB's for your model year. I beleive the 98-99's had a problem with the power steering lines being too small.

Don't want to sound like an idiot, but what is TSB's that I should search on?

Thanks!

I figured it out. :)

Sorry.

I have noticed a vibration/bumpng sound coming from the front drivers side whenever I turn the wheel to the left to pull into a parking space. Been thinking of taking to dealer to have it checked out since the car is still under warranty.

Any ideas besides consulting the TSBs? How does one check the TSBs anyhow on here?

Many thanks

Seems like we have the same problem, rickcrna.
I have that vibration, rubbing sound every time I pull into a parking spot and out of a parking spot ( mostly when I turn my steering wheel to the left though).

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I think I might bring it to get serviced today but I just thought if I had an idea of what it was that would be better.

Thanks.

"Funny" sound when turning left

Guys I have an '98 XLT 4x4 w/55000 mi. I posted my
problem here & got some good info. My Ford mechanic
said it was a Transfer Case problem: $2200 repair! I
took it to 2 other mechanics (the last an aquaintence)
and both couldn't find anything wrong even w/a re-
places hub/bearing assembly. the friend told me they
contacted Ford Tech & was told that there is an
"acceptable amount of noise" to be accepted for a
4x4!? My XLT doesn't "shimmy" or pull to the left, so I'm
just driving it, so far so good! BTW i never noticed this
problem until I had 235's installed instead of the
standard 205's and an alignment done. Go figure. You'd
think w/all the lawsuits Ford is involved w/Explorers
overturning (tires? right) they'd be a little more concern-
ed. Also the X was put up on a lift and w/everything
running (4H & Low) nothing was found out of spec.

I cannot beleive Ford can get away with this "acceptable" BS. My 95 certainly makes no noise turning left. Why would a vehicle e years newer with the same design be expected to make that noise? Of course, it's not. Your problem also seems to have something to do with the TSB mentioned.

Guys,
I chk'd the TSB's & found a couple of items #'s. Now what do I do w/them? Show them to my "Quality 1"
dealer? Fords may be a great vehicles, but IMHO their
service (mechanics) SUCK!
