Video proof that your Nav and MFT actually work?

So still no video proof, anyone?

I get the impression that those of us who actually use all advertised features are the ones with MFT problems. Those who only use a small fraction are fine.
Sadly, I want to use everything because that's the reason I chose this car. There are plenty other cars out there with limited features that work too.

I am in total agreement with you.

I don't think anyone out there that is trying to fully utilize all the features is actually doing so successfully.

That's why I asked for video proof.

My curiosity about this stems from the varied responses from those having troubles vs. those that keep saying it all works great. I don't think anyone that says it all works great is really using the thing all the way, as advertised, as paid for. Yes, the reason I bought the car as well.

Not happy.

So in effect, you're saying you think those of us who have working MFT systems are lying if we don't post up "video proof"?

The only part of my system I don't use is the wifi hotspot feature so I can't speak for that. The rest of the system works well for me. Is it perfect? Hell no, but my system works FAR better than what you are describing. I've NEVER had to do a re-set on my system or had the navigation crash out. All my issues were with the Sync part of the system, and an upgrade to 2.7 solved almost all my problems. The only remaining issue I have is when doing an initial synch to my phones. Once I've got the phone synched for the first time and download my contacts, it works fine. No dropped calls, no freeze ups, no lockouts.

If you're that unhappy with the vehicle, sell it or trade it in on something else. Loganfilm, if I had all the problems you say you do, my Explorer would have been back at the dealership immediately, and I'd be going for a lemon law return if they couldn't fix it.

I'm not saying anyone is lying. I'm saying that your version of "quick" or "fast" may be totally different than mine. I'm just curious what a fully functioning 2011 Ford Explorer MFT and NAV experience COULD look like. I want to know if going through all of this trouble to get mine fixed will actually be worth it or if I should dump the thing as you suggest.

Phone is synched in under 5 seconds. Nav is loaded in 14 seconds (timed it last night). Pulled up route and a weather radar map within 10 seconds after that.

I posted above how fast mine boots. By the time I start my vehicle, back it out of wherever I have it parked and put it in drive, the system is usually fully operational.

I believe your system is a severe anomaly (along with several other people's) and needs immediate attention from Ford. However, most of us don't have the problems you do and definitely not to the extent that you do.

If I plugged my iPhone4 in to the media hub below the SYNC screen and play a music video on the screen is that what you want to see in operation?

I think we'll see diminished residual value on the 2011's from all the flaws in this build.

I decide on a 24 month lease at the last minute. Decided that a 2013 or 2014 would be better to buy.

HAVE YOU TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO BE FIXED?
You are *****ing in just about every thread remotely connected to MFT about how yours doesn't work, but I have yet to see you say you have had it in to be fixed and it still doesn't work right.

If I've missed the part where you have had it in the service department and they have not gotten the issues corrected, my apologies - but have you?

I have taken several DAYS off of work to deal with the problems at the dealer. They are finally sending an engineer from Ford to look at it this week.

What's your time worth?

Ass.

Very classy

Sorry, Vic. I just thought that last post was a little uncalled for.

I want this new car to work like it should. I think that we are collectively coming up with a lot of solutions and suggestions that may help Ford improve their product and our experience.

My constant prattling on about this is the squeaky wheel that is getting some grease in the form of a visit from a Ford Engineer. It's also meant to help solve the same problems that others are going through. These problems are extremely frustrating and having someone make that last comment irks me. If you're not going through them, you'll never fully understand what a royal pain in the ass this car is. I'm at the dealer all the time. I'd rather be done with this.

Exactly +1

@JDraper: do you have an iPod (or hard drive) permanently connected? How big is your library? (GB's)

I was talking with another member of these boards and he had some issues with MFT not displaying album art properly. His solution was to decrease the number of songs that he had plugged into his car. It seemed to be working for him.

I wonder if people are overloading MFT, and MFT isn't smart enough to know better.

Loganfilm - how much music do you have plugged in? If it's a lot (over 500 songs say) - try reducing the amount of music you have. Perhaps that will help (at least with the loading times).

My MFT loads like JDraper's.... I have about 500 songs - like I said in my post before, I wonder if slow startup times aren't a function of music library size.

anyway - my phone pairs almost instantly, and the rest of hte system is booted by the time I put the car in Forward gear. Note that the NAV is loaded, but the GPS signal still hasn't acquired yet (which is not a function of MFT being slow, but just a general function of GPS - it takes a couple minutes to adequately acquire the satellites).

I bet if I timed it against my Garmin 200 Nuvi that the MFT with everything it has to control boots up faster than the Garmin. Talk about slow - that thing is horrible for just having to load up some maps and POIs.

Loganfilm and others - I've been busy at work lately, but perhaps if I get some time, I'll take a video.

That is one thing I don't have connected. I use my Sirius radio.

OK so when you said you are using every feature.. you should've said except an iPod... that's a big difference.
I have an iPod with 70 GB of music permanently plugged in.

As a test, I disconnected it a few days ago and I do see an improvement. Still slow-ish but noticeably better. Of course, it's not a solution but will help us narrow down the problem. Next test, try the same size music library from a regular hard drive (not ipod) - see if there is a differene.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I signed up to ask for help with another problem, but I just saw this thread and thought my input may help a little.

First of all, since I am posting on behalf of someone else's Explorer, what does MFT stand for? I have only driven the Explorer a couple times and am not familiar with all of the systems. I figure it has something to do with the whole touchscreen/sync system.

The problems I have experienced is that whenever you use a voice command, the radio will automatically turn itself on. The dealership says they are waiting for a software update to fix this problem. The other problem is with manually typing in an address in the Navigation system. Sometimes it will randomly already have a City name filled out, and it will not allow you to backspace or type a new name. The keyboard will be all grayed out. I have to go back to the home screen and start all over again and hope that the City name is blank. The screen also acts like a resistive touch screen. You have to press down hard for it to register a press. I think this is part of the reason why the system feels slow because of the screen not being very sensitive.

I have a dedicated older 16GB iPod Nano that is almost completely full. I might bring it in once a month to re-sync with iTunes but other than that it is in the car. Every time you re-sync with iTunes the index within the iPod is updated which in turn causes MFT to rescan the device. This might explain the slowness some of you are experience.

This is my second car with Sync, one of my observations is iPods with mechanical hard disk do not work well in extreme temperatures, stick with the solid state ones like the Nano.

I think if you don't take advantage of the USB port, then things work much better. I use my iPhone over BT for phone calls and music. We have been pretty lucky so far. It is not perfect, but I haven't seen a reboot or a total lock down yet.

We did have one weird case where my wife said the radio wouldn't turn on using the button in the center of the dial. I went out a noticed the same thing, but when I pressed the Sirius icon on the touchscreen it came alive. Then it took a few seconds for the presents to show up.

Outside of that, not too bad.

You know, the USB patch cord can be creating quite a restriction if it behaves anything like an external hard drive communicating with a PC, like JRM and Bethesda are communicating... The MFT isn't an entertainment based and powered PC, I wonder if Ford/Microsoft aren't failing to communicate the acceptable limits of the system, and what the recommended library sizes are.

My PC can take an hour to update and re-index my external music drive at home via USB. Should I post a vid? I swear I'm telling the truth...

Hey Guys.
I have over 1300 songs playing on mine. I have 2 USB's plugged in all the time. They are both 8gig and both are full. Haven't had any problems with slow boot up or anything. I leave mine in all the time. Since they reflashed my system back in April I haven't had any problems. Seems to be there are some faulty systems out there that need to be replaced. Lemons. Unfortunate, but bound to happen. I don't think it is fair for someone to come on here and type in BOLD letters. This is a place for people to come and share their problems and help fix others problems. There are a holes out there for sure. I feel your pain in not having your vehicle working properly. Especially with the money we have doled out to Ford. I am lucky and all the problems with mine have been fixed and were fixed in quick fashion. Best of luck.

Cheers

Edit.
By the way all the features work on mine. ALL OF THEM. Guess I'm just lucky. I'll make you a video. Cheers
