Im trying to register my explorer and the VIN on the door does not match the one on the windshield because the (drivers side) door was replaced. I need to get a VIN check done. Where are the other locations for the VIN # on a 2002 Explorer

the metal plate on the drivers side of the dash (I think this is the 'windshield' one your talking about) is the one to go by.

yup the metal plate on the dash...... the dmv wil lactually verify the vin # you have t otake it to them by appointemnt and have them verify it..... tehre is a special form that goes with that

its part of the process i am going through right now for my truck....

It's usually stamped on the frame too and engine block I think.

yeah I know about the plate on the dashboard that you see through the windshield.. What the DMV needs for the VIN check to be done is another location for the VIN to see if they match. They usually look right on the drivers side door on the sticker, however that does not match on mine. So i am looking for another location that I can show them that is easy to get to.

The DMV inspector should know where to look, it is their job. The VIN number is stamped in many many places in the body. It is etched in, or something, but invisible in appearance.

The VIN number on the block(last six digits) is probably the easiest to check for an amateur. Good luck,

Lets see....windshield, under the hood on firewall, engine block, and frame (behind rear tire somewhere). There may be more places but thats the ones I found. We went through something similar a few months ago with an 88 f-150 we bought. The owner sold another truck with the same title/VIN to someone else. The state caught it quickly when we both tried to get tags. Ours was correct in all places we looked. I have no idea what happened to the original owner or the other truck though.

Yeah the VIN Inspector guy at our local police station is VERY old and actually uses a magnifying glass to read the VINS. So he isnt the best at knowing where VINS are...and for some reason could not locate a firewall plate at all. So I want to be able to help him out and show him a few spots

I don't think i've ever had a "VIN inspection" here in NY. I've had 4-5 vehicles and never a question from the DMV about the VIN matching.

Yeah in Rhode Island any vehicle 10 years or newer with an out of state title needs a VIN inspection done

Any vehicle (no matter how new) bought from out of state, they are supposed to run the VIN number on here in Arkansas. If its in state, they do not.

I went through the motions when I bought my X. It ended up I knew the cop from high school (20 years ago) and he just asked me if it was stolen and what color it was. NO!..."arizona beige"....then he wrote the VIN off the old title, signed the paper and handed it to me.

Im trying to look in the engine for the firewall VIN. I cant seem to find one.

Could someone be so kind and look on their 02' explorer for me and try and find the firewall VIN or other VINS. And if you wanted to be super nice circle them in an engine picture so I can get a ballpark of where its located. cause im starting to get nervous that i may not be able to register the truck i bought

My '95 doesnt seem to have a VIN# on the firewall anywhere ?
