Viper Remote Auto Start 2008 EB

I have a 2008 EB Explorer and plan on installing a Viper 4806 two way remote auto start. I have done many vehicle mods but never an auto start. Does anyone have any decent installation instructions and wiring diagrams that can guide me through this process? I purchased the Viper on line and no installer around me will install for less than $300.00 since I did not purchase it from them. Please help! Thanks

What Ornery means is, "Due to the complexity of this system, installation of this product must only be performed by an authorized Directed dealer. If you have any questions, ask your retailer or contact Directed directly at 1-800-753-0600." By the way, Best Buy offers a packaged deal of the Viper 4806 and installation for $300 listed on their web site and you have several of those stores nearby you so I would just return the one you bought and go to them.

Coincidently, I just found the back cover missing from my 7153V Remote today. Looked for replacement online and it looks like I'd have to buy a whole shell for $15.00 + shipping. I called the installer, and a kid answered the phone. He fumbled through their spare parts, but couldn't find a back cover. Told me to wait while he asked the guys in the shop. The owner came on the phone and told me to bring it in, and they would take it off another remote, or worse case, swap me a new remote for $10.00.

These guys have been taking care of me for about twelve years now, and they are great. I will NEVER go anywhere else to save a few bucks. ejkob, it will pay off in the long run to develop a good relationship with the folks who work on your vehicles. You'll be using that remote start for years and years. What's a few extra bucks to have it installed by stand up guys?

Wow, never been in the 2006-10 Forum, but you guys are harsh..

Installing a starter is not as hard as it sounds, however, if you've never done any electrical work on a car (12V system), I'd steer you away from it. You risk damaging your ignition switch.

Most places install alarms for about $100.

Not being that harsh, just being realistic. It doesn't take much to kill the electrical system on these vehicles and hours to figure out where the problem is because just about everything goes through a smart junction box that costs a small fortune to replace. So you are better off letting someone else that does it all the time take care of the install when it comes to remote starters unless you have seen one installed on this generation before or someone has very specific instructions for this generation explorer that you can get your hands on (BTW none out there). Also, there are several electrical issues posted in this forum caused by remote starters going faulty and unable to figure out why.

someone here said the ford cd was on ebay for $1 - and it was - shipping was like $2 - best bargain i ever came across

the cd has all the electrical schematics - understand the concept of 'always hot', 'hot in start' and 'hot in run' - i installed the viper and did not cut one wire to install it - though i admit i did NOT hook up the rear window defrost - the 12 volt lists the other information you will need

supplies are automotive wire, wire ties, wire spades and those t connectors - you tap several circuits like the brake circuit, courtesy light circuit and a couple of wires to the rap module

i had a verizon hosted web site that had detailed instructions, but i dropped verizon in texas when i sold that house

use care when clamping on those t connectors and use the right size so it won't cut the wire - its a fun project and you will learn how simple the wiring harness is - after my install, i installed the autolamps, moved my radio to the accessory delay circuit and added several led courtesy lights

its time consuming - if its not your cup of tea to play with installing gadgets, i'd say $100 for the install is a bargain - though i have heard several complaints about best buy installs

Best Buy is hit/miss. My dad was impatient and had them install a viper on my mom's Expedition, short story they skipped over half the features. example- didn't bother hooking up horn or parking/dome lights etc. My parents didn't know until I told them.

They may charge $80 for an install, parts are extra. A Bypass Module is needed and runs $20 and up. The cheap $20 ones work great, you must leave a spare key in it, most places won't even bother with these anymore. The set back with the more expensive Bypass module is most of them can only be programmed once. New car-new module.

I've installed many remote starters over the years, they vary in degree of difficulty. You must test every connection and not depend on the color wire from a guide ever. Don't use connectors for the install "they may work good at first, a loose connection will turn into a major pain later or cause damage", solder is the best or look up the manual for rs1200 series from the site below. Under "making connections" page 7 and 8 shows how to make a trouble free connection, the "loop" or "end-to-end" is the best.

It took me two days to install this alarm and thats with a electrical background.it also was in a 94 so not even half the wires your have.I blame it on the lack of support from viper, took me almost a funn day just to figure out what all the wires are for and then I removed what ever ones (by pin) that were not used.think I was left with like 15 out of the 239 wires!!! Lol GREAT alarm tho!!
