Volant CAI on 96?

looking back at the Volant CAI because it offers a box that will shield better than the K&N FIPK. Though what is bothering me is that Volant doesn't seem to support the 96, only 97 and above. Is the distance different? I would figure its the same motor, same space in the engine bay? can anyone confirm?

They used a different airbox/relay mount in 1996. Ford changed the design in late 1996 for the 1997 Model year. 1997+ used 2 posts to mount the airbox.

If you look close at the MAC intake offerings for the V8, you will see the difference:

yea, though I looked at the mounting points and it seems nothing changed for the v6 between 96 and 97.
