Going to be swapping in a Econoline 9" rear end pretty soon. Ive heard alot of different things on the VSS sensor. On my 96 2wd is it located on the rear end, or in the trans?? And if its in the trans the sensor on the rear end is the ABS sensor????

Your 96 VS Signal Generator is in the transmission. The rear axle sensor is for the ABS only.

For 98~2001 4-door Explorer, the rear axle ABS sensor is also used as the raw VSS signal source. It is then converted to a 0~12V square wave and corrected for tire size in the 4WABS Module.

Yours is on the tranny. The one on the pumpkin is the RABS.

No wait, everyone is wrong, its in the transmission -- hehehe :).
Hey some1's gotta play the village idiot/annoyance around here
