Wally's thoughts on SensaTracs

A few days ago I decided to buy new shocks for my Explorer. It is a Sport model, meaning short wheelbase and terrible ride. Well I decided to replace the shocks at 133K miles. I believe these to be the originals. I bought the truck at 58K.

Take it as you will but these new Monroe SensaTracs made one heckuva difference. It rides like a new vehicle. I believe that it rides better now then ever. No more bouncing and jolting. It is a firm and controlled ride. It is now fun again to drive.

I believe that I bought extra life for the vehicle also as the jolting is no longer there beating the life out of all of the components.

Maybe the SensaTracs are not to be credited so much as I did have a lot of miles on the originals, but I would definately recommend them for on-road / on-highway use. They come with a lifetime warrenty also.

Hopefully this will help all of you with Sports and helping to change the belief that there is no hope for a terrible ride.

I almost bought the Sensatracs but went with Reflex instead. Supposedly a bit firmer than the Sensatracs. If you really want your Sport to ride that much better, score one or more EE swaybars (I think it was '98 when Ford finally firmed up the front swaybar). The addition of the new beefier rear bar was done the same day at the shocks for me. My X rides so much nicer than before. Handles way better too.

I just had a set of four, Monroe shocks installed on my XLT a month ago. Not sure which model they are, but, I do know they made a heck of a difference on the XLT. The original shocks had 83,000 miles on em. Nowif I can just get rid of that front end squeeking problem

Luuuv my SensaTracs!! Put 'em on about 96K.

Just finished putting on the rear shocks tonight. (did the fronts awhile ago)
Very pleased with the ride on rough city streets.

Poly sway bar bushings are also a great addition in the handling department.

Daver. I've got the squeeking problem up front still, also. Was hoping it was the shocks. I take it now, that it is the bushings. Is this a common problem and what is the solution, anyone?

Word Up Guys! Ive Done My Share Of Research For New Shocks And You Guys Solidified My Research. The Sensa's Get Great Reviews Down The Line. Im About At 80,000. With Alot Of Use And Im Noticing Ride Issues. Time To Swap For New For My 99 Xlt.

I changed mine out in the Spring to the Sensatracs. I had 100K on the originals. I'm really happy with the ride now. I was getting some sway up front which has disappeared totally. I did the job myself and it was pretty easy. One of the Sensatracs had a poorly pressed in rubber fitting. I ended up having to take it back and get another while in the middle of installating. A real PITA. I'm totally satisfied. I'm still not sure I got the front tight enough. I had a really hard time getting the front not to spin as I tightened the nut on top.
