I would think a high flow fuel pump at the least, probably some sort of forced induction, larger exhaust, and some tuning to use them.... Why do you want 24# injectors anyways??
I don't think you understand how a Multi Port Fuel Injected vehicle works.
You can't just throw in a 'bigger' injector, and expect more power. It just doesn't work that way.
This isn't the 70's. It's nothing like upgrading from a 2 barrel carburetor to a 4 barrel. Not even CLOSE to the same thing.
You must have done something ELSE to take advantage of the additional fuel demands. Upgraded and/or Ported heads and Intake, higher flowing exhaust, Camshaft, Superchager or Turbocharger...
I like to think I know a little bit about it! I upgarade the exhaust on every vehicle I own, for me it's a given. 24lb. injectors are not big enough to run with a turbo or a supercharger. My '95 5.0 Cobra had 24lb. injectors from the factory with GT40 heads and GT40 intake and the Cobra upper intake plentum, which is not all that different than the Explorer plentum, naturally aspirated. I know bigger injectors require a MAF upgrade and/or computer tuning.
Keep in mind that the cobra also had a MUCH more aggressive cam, and our cam is gutless. So what other mods do you have planned that you think you'll need these injectors? I've bolted on pretty much everything I can and the factory injectors are still keeping up with me.
Stock injectors are good up to about 300 flywheel horse. Unless you're pushing that limit 24's won't do you any good. If you ARE over 300hp without a cam or power adder....tell us your secret.
Ditto, the 19's will provide all the gas you can use until you change something that these guys have not.
You "could" install 42's or 55's, and still be bone stock and it run fine, but that requires PCM tuning. The 24s would require PCM tuning. Nothing will be gained that you cannot gain from the same tuning using the existing "free" 19's.
FYI, the "MAF upgrade" you mentioned is not an upgrade. That is a bad Mustang trick that involves an improper MAF curve to trick the PCM, to be able to work with a given injector. It's a cheap way out, and a too large percentage of those "calibrated" MAFs have poor MAF curves.
Stick with the proper MAF designs, don't waste money on an altered MAF, or unneeded injectors.
There are tons of things that you can do with the existing engine. Concentrate on the many weak links. The cam swap is hard in the truck, but worth it. Do the exhaust and other things, finish with a proper PCM reprogramming. The headers are crap, and open the exhaust to 2.5" dual at least. Don't buy an OTS cam, for the extra cost of a custom cam and how much each HP costs, get the best. Good luck,
Well, if the stock ones can keep up with all your mods, then I guess it won't benefit from them. I figured with the good heads and intake setup it would.
Pick a HP goal and match injectors to that. As said a figure like 300hp is easily reached with the 19's. The stock trucks make just under 200RWHP, give or take depending on whether you have 2WD or not. The exhaust and cam holds the 302 back a ton, even with the decent heads and intake. The heads and intake are good enough for 300hp, the other two are not.
It's a big can of worms, be careful about starting. A new cam requires new springs, and most cams should need rechecking of pushrods and geometry of the valvetrain. You could easily spend $750 doing the right things for a cam change.

alright, thanks for the info. I'm still searching for one right now, I really want a 5.0, but may have to settle for a 4.0. It seems alot harder to find the V8's for sale around here, or they are ragged out.
Hunt a 98-01, any 302 is better than any of the V6's, the trans alone is worth that upgrade. Don't be picky about finding the later model, the 98's have the same features. A 98 302 with 100k miles is still a great truck, they often go over 200k. The AWD will need work when the mileage gets much over 100k, so find a 2WD or be ready for the minor issues of AWD. be more picky about the colors and features/options that you want. The Limited or high option Mountaineer is fairly common.
