WAR153 Shackles

I just called the number page one of this thread and they knew exactly what I wanted.

Just tell then Warriror shackles (you'll hear her flip through a book) Warrior part number WAR153. And then she'll say, "what year jeep" and you say, "no, explorer" and she says "oh, right, '96 and up"

and then you just give them the cc number and hope your part is what we discussed in this thread.

disclaimer: (of course, JCW was great and I am sure the parts will be here soon like they said and I have been a customer of ... damn ... 20 years now!)

Hey rafar, where did you get your exhaust. I can't find one for 97 sport.

allright. i've decided to order the 153's this week. now for my question. should i do the torsion twist for the same amount of lift on the front as the amount that i achieve for the rear with the 153's (i.e. 1.25 or 1.5 in the rear = 1.25 or 1.5 in the front)? or would i be able to go taller in the front since it looks like it (the truck) sits lower in the front?

JGriffin:
I ordered the 95-96 borla exhaust system that ford racing was selling. It fit perfectly as I figured it would.

Thanks rafar thats what I was hoping because I ordered the 95-96 model the other day, because they sent me the 97 one and it was made for the sohc so I sent it back. Glad the 95-96 fits.

i ordered my 153's today!!! can't wait to get them in and on! anyway, if someone could answer my question from a few posts ago, i would really appreciate it.

dmoore, You can go what ever height you want in the front. Most say 2 inches is the highest, but if you are sagging in the back you can go less than the shackles or more than the shackles if you want the front higher than the rear.

keep the rear higher than the front....that way when you're loaded down with extra weight you will sit about level

ahhh, good idea, leebo. hadn't even thought of that aspect.

Hey lebo and others, I have add a leafs so if i addes the shackels would my lift be higher than2 inches because the leaf couldent go flat like yours, just a thought. How much travel does the 5'5 inch superlift have?

You would get about 3.5 inches of lift.....but you'll kill youself. Add-a-leaf and shackles are like blocks....the more blocks you add the less stable you will become. You will be putting a ton of strain on some of the crutial parts of the rear end. I wouldn't do it myself, but it would work to get a cheap lift. If you want the lift get a spring over or all new springs.

As for the superlift....its got the "flex" to put the rear wheels out of the wheel well. A stocker will get about 450 on the RTI where a 5.5 lift will get about 800+ on the same ramp.

Add-a-leafs are nothing like lift blocks. They change the arch of the spring to gain height. You will be a little stiffer.....but on springs that have some miles on them that is a good thing. Lift blocked rears are prone to axle wrap the add-a-leafs are not and w/ the sua setup like explorers have that is not a big issue anyway

I might of used a bad word to make my point. I just feel that you're asking for trouble doing this. You're just adding one part onto another to get something done

Putting a shackle lift and an add-a-leaf are no more rough on the drivetrain than New springs. And they are a heck-uf-a lot less prone to axlewrap that the SOA that superlift uses. In any lift you are adding parts. Pivot point drop brackets w/ Lift springs...Then add radius arms.

Leebo i wasnt accually goind to do it , just was wondering. as for the add a leafs, they are nothing like ridding on my old springs, my truck thats looks alot like yorus rides better now than ever and i still have alot of flex. Im going to do a superlift with superrunner steering and teh zimmerman mod( the rear ranger leaf on top) to gain flex, also some new shocks. I have a 2 inch lift right now but on the sport it ended up being about 2 1/2 inches. Not bad, so anyone know about the rs 5000's and why my new ones that are sposed to be for a 2 1/2 inch lift , why they are almost the same length as stock. Would some 4 inch lift oones work??? leebo check out my site , truck look familier

I have been thinking that the shackles combined w/ the add-a-leaf might actually be good for the u-joints by lessening the angle because the shacles tilt the slightly.

I wish I had listened to everyone who told me NOT to install hockey pucks to lift my truck. What started out as a 1" body lift is now about a 3/4" body lift with bulging and cracking pucks. Ssssooooooooooo, now I have a better idea, and would like opinions. I have found this site that sells 1" 6061-T6 Aircaft Aluminum pucks predrilled for $5/puck (a bit high, but I think it beats the hassle of replacing rubber pucks every year). The site is Dead Link Removed
Also, after reading this entire thread, I never did see the URL for Warrior products, so if anyone cares it is

Winter will be here soon and I've got to get the 30x10.5-15 M/T Baja Belted's out of the basement and back under the fenders. I just want to know I'm not going to loose the connection between the body & frame while tredging thru the snow. I know that all the bolts still fit with a 1" lift. I found this out with the hockey pucks. So for $50 bucks and a bumper that looks almost normal, I think this is a better option than the 2" lift for a Ranger and ill-fitting bumper brackets that you're left with for the alternative.
Any feedback is appreciated.

97Mountaineer, I'd be curious to know what pucks you used. Mine stayed on for nearly a year and never deformed. At any rate, a permanent setup with the aluminum spacers is certainly preferable and you'll never have to worry about replacing it (plus it won't squeak everytime it rains). My hockey puck lift with the bumpers in their stock position looked just fine. Now that I am at 2" making those bumper relocation brackets work was a major pain so if you want to keep it simple I think you have a good plan.

Concerning the shackle + add-a-leaf, I agree with HIX. I have that right now. My rear springs were starting to straighten out a little and the add-a-leaf really made a difference. It rides just fine and doesn't feel any more unstable at all; maybe more stable. Having both is no different from a shackle lift with stiffer springs. Kind of a non-issue to me. And I still get the extra flex of the longer shackle on the trail.

I am considering going up another inch by installing some OME springs and then I won't be able to use both the shackle and the add-a-leaf; it'll be TOO high. The shackle will stay on it (not the add-a-leaf) and I should get some pretty impressive flex from the setup.
