I have a '99 and I grenaded the pass front hub off-roading.

Can I/Should I swap in Warn manual hubs? Can I do it with the late model auto hubs?

By "hub assembly", I mean it includes the lug bolts. It also has an ABS Sensor that plugs into it. It uses roller ball bearings.

What exactly is the benefit of Warn manual hubs over automatic hubs?

Can't be done with the 2nd gen..

The hubs on your '99 are not "auto hubs". Unlike the Gen 1 Explorers that do the disconnecting at the wheel, they are actually fixed permanantly to the axleshafts, and all the disconnecting is done in the xfer case.

For the Gen 1 Explorers, the advantage of a manual hub is that they are much more durable than the autohubs, and you can run the truck in 2WD Lo if you want.

Thanks, yea, I realized later that I didn't have unlocking hubs.

so all this brings me to this question:

Can I replace my hub assembly with a stronger aftermarket one?

Actually, the OE one looked pretty stout.

I am also in the market for a front passenger hub assembly and from the research i did this company in port chester new york has the best price. I noticed that you are in white plains so 10-15 minutes from you you can pick it up. They said this is a aftermarket for that price but for OE they can get me one for about 145. That so far is the best price i have found. The pick up charge is 10 dollars for your whole order. So if you order one item or 5 items it will only be 10 dollars to pick it up. Not that bad.

I never dealt with them before but just thought i throw out to you what i already found.

Most likley i will be getting one from them.

You must be talking about Medallion Auto Parts in Port Chester, NY.

That is the parts store I go to all the time. They are AWESOME! They carry almost any part (even rare specialty ones) and usually IN STOCK. And they are open 7-days, long hours! I even went to a Ford Dealership once looking for a specialty bracket for a Ranger and they told me that they would have to order it and it would take days, and it would be pricey. They actually recommended Medallion to me and told me to go there, since it will be a lot cheaper, get an aftermarket company who will build it a little better, and they should have it in stock for me today!

Of course I went there. They priced me in for $100 for a hub assembly - in stock in their store. I'm guessing this is not an OE Ford part, but an aftermarket company, which is usually better. (I know their aftermarket clutch slave cylinder is a lot more durable than the one I got from Ford).

I'm picking up the hub assembly tonight ... unless you beat me there.

I have a 2000 XLT, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. Perhaps someone else with more knowledge can tell you.

Those should fit 95-01s without an issue.

Thank you! I will be ordering one for me very soon! :salute:
