Warn Man. Hubs and Trans. Case Motot

I am having problems with my transfer case motor. IT will not engage 4Wd. All I get when I push the button is a few clicking noises. The lights on the dash also come on but nothing other than that happens. I have read that something could be wrong with the motor and also that the automatic hubs are worth a damn. My question is, if I buy a new pair of Warn manual hubs, would I still need to buy a new transfer case motor?

How do you know that you are not in 4wd. If on loose dirt, can you get the front tires to spin in 4wd? Usually if the light goes on, it will be in 4wd. Do you hear any noises coming from the front when you are moving. If you hear clanking, then your hubs are probably shot. Can you go into 4Lo? What year is your Explorer?
