Warning! Add an aftermarket security system!

Okay, this worries me a little. I work for the local police dept and I know how many vehicle break-ins there are in my apartment complex. None have happened at my particular building thank God, but close enough! Scumbag people!

So, does anyone have any input on what a good alarm system it to get and how expensive they are? I was also thinking of buying a remote starter. Is there anything out there you can buy that is like a combo of the two?

either dei or audiovox prestige. if you are interested, i can get audiovox products for way below retail.(and yes it is legal, i have a wholesale account with a distributor!)

So does anyone know where I can find a comprehensive list of laws for each state (particularly NJ). People always mention laws in their area and I always want to see what the corresponding law would be in NJ but can never find it online anywhere...

I called my congressman's office once to get a book on gun laws. They sent it to me no problem, listed everything. I'm sure you could do the same for this. But as a good rule I'm betting that stealing stuff in NJ is just as illegal as anywhere else....

For my truck I have an aftermarket alarm with starter kill. The relay for the starter kill is up behind the instrument gauge almost and most of the wires are way up in there so it's hard to get to. If I don't unlock the doors with my alarm remote then truck doesn't start....wouldn't stop the cd player/subs being stolen. The amp is also hidden behind the plastic panels on the side, as well as the cap and inverter I've installed. The light saying my alarm is activated is right on top of the dash so it shines up like a spot light to make it known there is an alarm and she's on but anything is stealable, best you can do is to make it such a pain in the a$$ to steal that the ##### trying to steal your crap moves on to an easier target.

A good alarm/starter w/ pager unit and window tint will go on my truck before any of the stuff listed in my sig. I work nights, so my truck sits outside mostly unguarded 5-6 nights per week. I'll have the alarm silent to where the only indication is my pager. Where I live, you can legally shoot someone stealing your vehicle.

Hey, do they still sell Trunk Monkeys?!

I did not know that such a Place Existed. But, Just because you CAN legally shoot them doesn't mean they can't Win in Court Ya know? :D

Unfortunately, that is the truth in the world we live in today.......

Yea i would imagine stealing is just as illegal but it would be nice to know how many bones I'm allowed to break in the event that I happen upon some SOB trying to rip my stuff off...

I don't care what I'm allowed to break, he's gonna be hurting. I'd let him get a few shots in on me, mess my face up a bit and then put him in a world of hurt "Honest officer, I feared for my life, I was trying to just get away from him enough to run but he kept hitting me."

See, fellas, that's the thing. You cannot allow the criminal to live. Then they take you to court. That's how the county guys told me to look at it. There was a case here a couple of years ago where a guy caught someone breaking into his car and he shot an arrow THROUGH his head and pinned him to the trunk lid. Gruesome, but the guy lived. The criminal tied the guy up in court, but the thief did eventually lose the case.

Dead people don't talk. "Officer he started to reach from behind his back with something so I shot him. I was in fear of my life when I said don't move, he still reached behind his back" Plant a black jack on him and call it a night.

Or this little revolver that I purchased in a plastic bag with no serial number on it :D

That doesn't work in all states. When I lived in NH if you woke up to someone in your house and you had a gun in your hand you had to try and escape from the house. You weren't allowed to shoot unless you were cornered and in fear of your life or something like that.

If I wake to someone strange in my house, you'd better bet I fear for my life. I lock my doors for a reason (I've been robbed before- hence my paranoia).
