Was there ever an engine bay light?

Same as Jay on my '97. And yes the switch is for the alarm, mine came a little loose and I would park by the river, start hiking up the mountain, and when the sun would hit the truck I'd hear the alarm and rush back down the trail to see truck was fine. Took a while for me to figure that one out! Koda no PATS on a '97.

Yes, I know. No RF ignition key on the '97. The hood switch works with the doors being open somehow. My hood struts are shot on my '97 and I somehow managed to set off the alarm (horn) while checking the oil once. It's not whether the hood is "forced" open, I think it's whether it's opened while the doors are closed/locked.

My 96 has a light mounted to the hood on the driver's side. It is turned on when the hood is raised, day or night. It has a self contained mercury tilt switch.

Pretty much this.

They came standard until 1997. 1998 was a hit and miss, completely eliminated in 1999. (Some could option for it.)

Old Picture, but you can see it here:

I put an LED in, quite a bit brighter.

Mine has never gone off, closed door or open, hood up or down.

Could always add 1. You don't realize how much you need 1 until it's dark and you have engine troubles, not everyone will call a tow truck. Not me, hence the light

Still haven't finish the switch yet. Led strip from sbl. Once I reinstall my hood insulation it will be completely hidden

I have a cheap flash light in glove box and one of those in the rear, by the jack:

Truly weird. My sport came with puddle lamps, but no engine bay light

THIS.

I was fortunate enough to put mine in just a few days before a major breakdown in the middle of nowhere. With 5630 strips so cheap, there's no reason not to do this.
