water temp sending unit- more than one size?

I just went to replace my water temp sending unit & the new one didn't fit. It looks identical to the old one & the old one went back in with no problem. Could there be more than one size? The threads look good. I am going to check them out with the mic. to see if that tells me anything.

I just replaced mine today and I thought the same thing. You are right they are hard to get in. What I did was cleaned the old unit's threads and screwed it back in. After that the new one went in without a problem.
