I've had a dancing water temp guage since at least this past winter. Had changed thermostat and flushed coolant. Didn't help.

Then, fixed a leaking heater control valve, thought that might be it. Wasn't.

Learned to live with it.

But recently, put in a new EGR pressure sensor (DPFE sensor?) due to a CEL of P0401.

Fixed that CEL condition, but it seems I got an unexpected side benefit: my temp guage is now rock-solid at about 1/3 of the way up.

X seems to be running and idling a little smoother now, too, and a hit of pinging that I had been getting seems to be gone.

It makes some sense, as I understand that insufficient EGR flow can make the engine run hot. If the sensor was wacking out and not regulating the EGR properly, perhaps it was helping cause the temp swings I was seeing?

Didn't do a scientific test to rule out all possibilities, but I know that some folks have tried all the usual stuff to stop the temp swings, so I thought I'd pass this along.
