I always thought that the dampness under my drivers mat was just water that had soaked through from my shoes, down from the mat into the carpet. Recently though, I've noticed it being wet after a rain and I haven't even been driving it. I pulled the carpet up to look under it and sure enough near the door sill there was a small puddle, and then it was just wet pretty much all over where your feet would be when you drive. I can't really figure this one out. If I had a leak around my door, how would the water travel up to where my feet are, because that is a definite uphill climb? Could it be a grommet somewhere? Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

sounds like there mayb e a windshield leak and it may be running down the firewall..... water is wierd, and it will get into places you never though it could...... my floor is constantly wet, but my dashboard is also exposed to rainwater......

It might be the windshield like jimabena said. My windshield leaked and I would get a puddle of water on the passenger side floor mat. Also the headliner would be soaked. I just went to a hardware store and bought some clear silicone and ran it around the edges of the windshield under the rubber trim. Good luck and I hope you find the leak.

I get the same thing after a rain, tracked it down to a leaky windsheild and/or sunroof. I haven't done anything about it yet, but I'll probably get a tube of caulk and try and seal everything I can find. Do you have streaks on the inside of your windshield?

Thanks for your input. The windsheild woud be a good thing to look at. I know it isn't visibly leaking, as there are no streaks or water. However, I dont really notice the carpet being wet near the firewall by the gas and brake pedal. Seems like If it was comming from there I would see it. I think I may just try and pull the carpet back, maybe even take the seat out so that I can pull it back a lot....then just get inside and have someone soak it down real good and see If I can see anything. If that doesn't work I will just try caulking the seal around the windsheild. Is there any special kind of sealant to use? Thanks again...big help. Bob

Might also want to check for loose fitting body plugs on the floor board. The water can be forced thru these. Have seen it on Sables/Taurus' and Escapes. A good cleaning with a dab of silicone sealant fixes it right up.

I'm getting closer

Today it rained some more so right afterwards I went out and pulled the front carpet up again. As you guys suspected it was trickling down from the firewall....i think. The farthest up I could trace the water was about where the brake pedal is high on the floor board, anywhere above that was all plastic molding that is on top the firewall...so I can't see behind it to look for water. If I caulk around the windshield base....where do I do that at. There is a small rubber flap between the HVAC intake wiper area, and the windsheild....do I just caulk there? I think the base of the windsheild goes farther down, which would mean I would have to remove the plastic HVAC cover. Any ideas? thanks

Yes, you may have to remove the plastic panel. You can use a hose and put someone inside and watch for leaks as you work your way around the windshield. Start from the bottom.
