I found a 5R55S for my 2002 at a junkyard about three hours away. I can't go get it until Saturday, but no one will be there to help me load it that day. They said they can leave it where I can get to it, but there won't be anyone to help me load it. I'll probably be driving my wife's Rav4.

Does it seem reasonable to think I can load it by myself? I feel like it should be, but I'm just not sure.

Thanks,
Jake

You might have to get creative to prevent a hernia.
Take along a length of board to use as a ramp, and a section of
old carpet or tarp to set the trans on. Then you can slide/push/pull
the trans up the ramp into the RAV4. An old tire works well to
stabilize a trans while transporting.

Interesting I was just talking to my wife about buying a used transmission and teaching myself ....with the help from the forum members...to rebuild it as a spare

Runnin'OnEmpty - Thanks! That's what I needed! I should be able to wrestle that into the back of the car!

donalds - I've always wanted to do that, but just haven't had the time. I'm more interested in rebuilding it just to gain a better understanding of how an automatic transmission actually works than anything else. I found a manual specific to rebuilding the 5R55 series of transmissions on Amazon for $35.

Same. I’d love to pick up a spare 4R70W and build it up...but I don’t know where to get a cheapo other than pick n pull...and pulling a tranny in a junkyard isn’t my idea of fun

UPDATE: I got the transmission and with the torque converter removed, I had no issues carrying short distances by myself to move it to another vehicle.
