hmmm..... im about 215, the wife is about 115. since 100lbs=10 hp=0.1 second on the strip, my X would be a full tenth quicker with my wife driving. :D

Lol X-box I would be happy with a 16 sec run out of my v6. If I did 13's I don't know what the hell I would do.

RangerX Im about 220, with only 12 days left until the track I dont think your idea would work much, even though I did think about it :D

My bad, I was thinking of XLT_66 who just ran 14.26....

So my question to you is....

If this isn't for a championship, to where the race will be decided by tenths........Why would you go through all the trouble to take out a half dozen items that will only add up to a few lbs of savings?

Don't take this wrong...but It seems like a lot of work to remove some of those items, when in reality their removal is not going to significantly change your trap speed or time.

The seats, spare tire, etc will help, but removing the last 15lbs of small things ie washer bottle, cruise control canister, etc is probably just a wase of time.......Just my $.02.....again no offense intended.

Anyway goodluck with your run and post the times when you are done. Dom

Thanks for your opinion x-box. My reason for doing this is simple. I want to see what is the best time I can get out of my truck for the least amount of money. I have less than $1000 worth of mods on my truck. (intake, bbk throttle body, plugs, wires, exhaust, chip, n2o).

Also I have a couple challenges and I want to make sure I win.

I guess that's where we differ. Last time I went to the track I did take the spare and subs out, but that only took 5 minutes.

I want to know what my truck runs in street trim, everyday driving.

BTW, I don't think I'm gonna go to the strip again with this truck, or at least that one. There was way too much traction and I thought I was gonna break something.

Well the only things I have taken out were my 15" subs. amps, battery for the amps, spare tire, back seats, rear carpet, passenger seat and a race seat for the driver side. So yea normal street trim :p

As for traction I have some light weight rims with drag radials and I did that 2wd switch mod so I should be all set.

i still have my stock wheels with brand new "May-Pop" Uniroyal 235/75/15's. come get 'em. i promise you wont have too much traction, and the 28" tire combined with a serious weight reduction would drop alot off your ET. :D

I'd probably drop at least a second just by switching to those tires. Besides the tire size, they also weigh a bunch! Rotational mass is 4x as bad as static mass.

Just curious as to why you are doing the 2wd mod. YOU HAVE 2WD ALREADY!! You have a '95 and therefore has a 2WD mode which disconnects the front axle too. So you don't have to do the mod. I would actually think that Auto might help with traction. Or is my theory wrong? Traction=Good or Traction=Bad?

I do not have 2wd and if I do I sure as hell can't find it. My switch says Auto 4wdHIGh 4wdLow. Unless I have a different bezel and the auto is really 2wd. But I also have that big gay placard underneith my Explorer emblem that says Control Trac blah blah blah. Im not sure if all of the 95's came with 2wd.

I'm 100% sure that all '95 and '96s that have V6's have 2WD, 4AUTO, 4LOW. '97+ have the one your talking about. So my guess is you just have a knob from one of those. I'd really check it out by somehow lift all of your wheels off the ground and see what happens, Just make sure you use jack stands and common sense:p And if the switch does wat is says, then wow! I'm gonna have to find out that and do it to mine so I can have 4HI!!!

hhhmmm very interesting. Maybe I do have 2wd and I have the wrong bezel. (I don't know why the dealership would sell a truck with the wrong bezel) Hmmmm im very curious now. Well guess im taking out the jackstands tomorrow and finding out.

If I do it would explain why I can spin my tires all through first gear when there is a little water on the ground.

Alec I did that 2wd mod thingy the front drive train would be nice to take out but that looks like alot of work.
you only have to undo 13 bolts to get the front axle and driveshaft out. :)

Yea! Let me know how it turns out! I'm curious to see now! Another way to check: On your front axle, opposite the pumpkin, there should be a black box which is you axle disconnect for the front. That would also be another piece of evidence to having 2WD.

The reason I was talking about traction being bad is that my tires were sticking too much to the tarmac. Usually driveline stress is relieved by slippage in the differential or of the tires. When the tires are very sticky and you have a stiff LS (or locker) like I do, something else is gonna give if you apply too much torque to the driveline.

This is why drag cars often blow their differentials or Ujoints out.

IamTodd is correct. 95-96 should be 2hi 4 auto 4 low. The dealership prob didn't replace the bezel. The brown wire mod still gives you the advantage of 2 low. :)

Yup. I dropped .9 seconds in the 1/4 by switching from 33's to 29's back when I had 4.10's.

I've always wondered what I could run on 29's with my 4.88's though :D

I'm guessing I'd run 14.5 with stock tires and some weight reduction. Not bad for a V6 truck ;)

Well I threw the truck up on jackstands today put it in drive and let it go and......only the rear wheels spun. I then hit the brake put it in 4wd and all of them spun. I wonder who the put auto 4high 4low indicator in there. Oh well im just happy I don't have to screw around with that brown wire.

On a side note I mounted my bottle, mounted my solenoid, and ran all of my lines for the n2o. Now all I have to do is wire it all up. :D
