I have read all other posts regarding 4x4 problems but mine seems to be different.
I just want to know if someone has this same problem, and what they did to repair it....
3 months ago my ABS light came on, 1 month ago I replaced my front wheel bearings. I have not cleared the code and my ABS light is still on.
My 4x4 low and high lights blink on and off repeatidly when I start the truck. I can not engange my 4x4 and the truck last week would only drive in 2WD.
A couple days ago, I unplugged the negative terminal on my battery for 5 minutes, when I plugged it back in my 4x4 was working fine. Until yesterday when I started up my truck and when backing out of my driveway my truck started to "hop". That was when I noticed that it was in 4x4 low. I proceded to drive down the road and heard the truck make a loud whinning noise and noticed the speedometer read 120km/h when I was barely going 40km/h.

Please help!

the abs light is on r a reason. get the codes pulled to find out why its on. everytime you shut the truck off the system resets. if its on evrytime you key on then the truck is still seeing the problem. when abs light is on it disengages 4wd. it siunds like your having a problem with the 4wd module. do searches on here. someone ran a new ground from the tranfer case to the frame and fixed the problem your having. good luck

ok thanks but if the module was not working why does it work perfectly when i unhook the neg. termanal from the battery for 5min. i dont know.. i just read so many posibilities i just dont want to pay for the 4x4 module then still have the same problem. ford wants 150 to read the codes but they also said that they cant promiss anything

Try brown-wire mod if you don't want to replace 4x4 module - can't hurt anything and it might do the trick.

There's several posts describing what and how to -- search brown-wire mod.

Have you driven through very high water lately? The reason I ask is my 2002 explorer had some of the same issues as you are having after I drove through some high water during a heavy rain. Mine was fixed by unplugging the large connector on top of the trasfer case. Dry it out and then pack it full of dielectric grease. Hope this helps you out.
