Slider switch on the mirror is shot. Mine went south years ago, so I unplugged it. I prefer manual control of my lights anyway.

Ok.thank you.and what does that switch do?auto lamp means it turns your light on and off when it wants?lol.

It’s been years, let me see if I can remember.

I think all the way to the left is lights off (unless you have them on manually using the rotary switch to the left of the steering wheel). Once the slider comes out of that detent, it enables auto lamps—the lights will come on automatically when the sensor in the mirror detects darkness.

The further you slide to the right, the longer the headlight delay is after you shut off the car. All the way to the right and they’ll stay on for a couple minutes after you shut the truck off.

My switch started getting worse and worse, until finally I couldn’t turn the headlights off. It was a problem bc I would blind the gate guards when driving through the base security checkpoint.

I try to avoid pissing off people with rifles.

Probably good not to upset them.my son is navy right now.thanks for your service and thanks for the info.

Oh nice, I got out of the Navy a few years ago. Flew the F/A-18E, would stab my mother in the throat to do it again. Best of luck to your son.

Thank you.and he is on the USS Germantown.

There was a topic about this recently, where I mentioned a couple ways to keep the auto-dimming feature of the mirror but disable the light slider control. One was disconnecting only one wire on that connector and the other was removing a relay, IIRC. That info is in two or more different posts I made in the topic linked below.

Edit: I assume you know that you have to move the mirror slider all the way to the left to turn that off, if the slider still works. Sometimes just moving it back and forth, full travel several times, will help to clean gunk off the tracks and wipers so it works again. It's just a linear potentimeter so the other option is if you can non-destructively open the mirror, then you can clean those contacts off and put a "little" dielectric grease on the tracks.

Also if the mirror switch is considered to be shot, you might inject a little white lithium grease into the slider gap. I had one mirror that the slider was very loose and malfunctioned a lot. I replaced it with a used one as soon as I noticed that, I might have saved that old mirror too if the glass wasn't stained.
