I have this issue where if I'm coasting (in traffic, or around a turn) and then give it gas, it will sometimes take a second or two after I hit the gas pedal to do anything. It even completely died the other day after a particularly hard turn, but it started right back up. It's a '99 5.0 and I've done plugs and wires recently for other reasons. Thoughts?

So I fixed this. Here's what I did.

I was pretty sure it wasn't the plugs or wires because I did those less than a year ago with good parts and it was running fine after I did it. It has a newish fuel filter too, so I didn't think that was the problem. I thought coils next, so I replaced those with some other known good ones I had. Didn't fix the problem. By this time it was dark, which caused the problem to reveal itself. The number 8 spark plug wire was too close to the header which caused the insulation to burn away and short to the header. Put some high temp wrap on it for now and moved it out of the way.

I don't know why replacement wire sets have such extra long wires, but I guess the real moral is to look for ignition problems in the dark.

Thanks. Me too!

lol

A very fine spray will show up any faults in the high voltage system without any danger by ionizing the air around the plug wires.
