weird noise

at different times when i drive my truck on acceleration it seems to make a whining noise. it happens between 30-40mph, but when i let off the noise goes away. not sure where its coming from. my roommate says it might be a valve hanging up, i think its something in the tranny. has anyone else ever heard any kind of noise like that? i know i am not going crazy, i think?
