i need some input on a wierd noise i heard that came from my left wheel well. maybe somebody has an idea of what it could have been. i just got finished putting in my 2 inch susp. lift and my 2 inch body lift. everything went as well as it could have gone. put on my new tires and everything and took it out on my land to go test it out. took it oout in 2wheel everything went fine. then i decided to put it in 4 low to see what it could do on this steep incline i have on my land. put in in low, put it in reverse and went to back up with the wheels ****ed to the left. just as power started to go to the front i heard a big popping noise come from the front left wheel. i obv stopped for a sec, turned the wheel straight and backed up fine. took it for a spin quick, everything went good. lots of fun so far. took it back into the barn and took a look in the wheel well to see if i could see anyting wrong but couldnt see anything. anyone have any ideas what the noise could have been. thanks a ton

back up with the wheels ****ed to the left. just as power started to go to the front i heard a big popping noise come from the front left wheel.

Either your tires were hitting the radius arm (common). Or your auto-hubs were giving out (did the power to the front give-out for a second?)

but ****ing the wheels all the way to the left in 4wd is asking for trouble :D It could of been a u-joint binding up. Also my radius arms used to make noise while when i would back up (when i used urathane bushings compared to polyurathane)

i know turning them all the way in 4 wheel is asking for trouble. but they werent even turned all the way and i was in snow so i figured i would be safe, but i guess not. i couldnt tell if i lost power or not but i dont think i did. atleast not in both wheels. it was dark so i couldnt see. but it felt like it was in 4 wheel bc i wasnt breakin loose easily at all in the snow. i dunno.

You have issues with the trani now but I would put the stock tires back on and try it again and see what happens. See if it is tire size or something else.

It does sound like Auto Hub issues. I hate Auto hubs..I do not have Autos on any of my vehicles, they plain and simply are not trustworthy

Sounds like hubs to me as well. When I installed my first lift I took it to the alignment shop and they said I needed new balljoints and my wheel bearings needed servicing. So I said no problem fix it up, I then took it out for a burn in a dirt field and it did the same thing. It felt like something was jamming and jerking the front axle. It turns out the alignment shop greased my hubs as well (thats a no-no for auto hubs) and they screwed them for me. I'd take it back out and accelerate fairly hard straight forward and see if it bangs and clunks. That way eliminating any steering input into the equation. Either way if you are going to wheel it or put larger tires on it you may as well order manual hubs now. :)

yea i want to get some. just gotta get save some $$$. im broke now.

thanks for the site. ya think i should get hubs first or save up for some shocks. right now i running the stock ones with my 2" skyjacker. whats more important.?

You still need to verify that you have a Hub problem.
Put the small tires back on and run through the same scenario to see if you still get the popping. If it still clunks, and there are no scape marks up in the wheel well or anywhere else from Tire rub, I would think your hubs are tired.
How are the 'U' joints on the ends of the axles? They can be causing a banging/clunking when stressed too.
With the tires on the ground, slide under and grab the driveshaft and try to turn it. By turning it you will be engaging the Auto Hubs. See how much 'play' you get in the 'U' joints at the steering Knuckle as well as on the driveshaft.
