Weird problem with Stock radio

I have a 96 E.B. with a stock AM-FM-Cassette- 6 CD changer.

The AM works great
Cassette works great
CD Works fantastic

FM will scan and seems to stop at stations but I have no volume. If I crank it up I can barely hear anything.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like a bad headunit if the other am/cd/tape all work ok.

Distributed Radio Architecture

The radio pictured from your '96 EB is a Ford/JBL radio that features the "Distributed Architecture" of JBL systems used in Explorers and Lincolns from 1995 through 1997. The replacement head unit MUST have an -18C852- base part number (like the one pictured) in order to work. Other models of Ford radios, such as the midline cassette radio (base part # -19B132-), Premium Cassette radio (base part # -19B165-), or single CD radio (base part # -18C815-) will NOT work as a direct replacement.

You also need one with a "B" suffix in order to run your changer. The models with an "A" suffix are NOT CD Changer compatible.

On second thought I believe the JBL system has a RCU rear control unit that does all the processing. That could be your problem.

Tuner is in the RCU

RiverRat is right, if there IS a problem with the FM tuner section of the radio, the FM tuner in the Distributed Architecture JBL system is in the RCU (base part # 18C851-) which is located behind the RR Qtr trim, attached the front of the Subwoofer enclosure.

I would suspect an antenna problem, and would be checking all of the antenna cable connections to be sure they are secure. The antenna cable runs from the RF fender back to the RCU in the RR Qtr.
