Well, on 11/21/13 we traded in our 2011 XLT with 36,000 miles for a 2013 GMC Acadia Denali.

Took delivery of this pretty gal today.

Did you trade in the Acadia? If so, why. Welcome back!

Short story - wife didn't really click with the Acadia.

There were a lot of good things about it. Some bad. Just like the Ex. But ultimately, I'm just trying to keep peace in my household.

Wise choice TX. I love the color.

Haaha, fully understand. Happy wife happy life. Which vehicle do you like better? Do the Acadia denalis run around 10K more then the explorer?

Nice color and welcome back ....

Well, the Denali comes standard with (I think) every option except all wheel drive. Ours was pretty much loaded to the gills. Sticker was $48,600. We ended up at $42,500 before TT&L.

Things I liked:
- The ****pit - I'm 6'1 and 170#, so narrow. I could lower the steering wheel to where I wanted it, and rest my elbows on the console and the door for long drives. Steering wheel controls were nice and intuitive.

- OnStar - seriously. All you do is push the button and say "hey, this is where I want to go" and they update your nav. You know, since it's against the law to allow the passenger to change destinations while you're moving. The OnStar app is nice as well. You can remote start when out of range, check fuel, oil, tire pressure etc.

- Design - The new LED accent lights on the front and square-er proportions make it look a little more masculine.

- 2nd Row buckets - they really do slide way back. Further than compared with the EX. Although, in both vehicles, this makes the 3rd row useless.

- The technology package - Whatever GMC calls it, works. I can push the button and say "play _____" or "navigate ______" and I get results. We didn't see this in our 2011 XLT, and granted, there were lots of problems with MFT in the early revisions. Hopefully that's resolved.

- The fit and finish of the interior was nice, but we didn't have it long enough to get any rattles or bugs.

Things I didn't like -

Mileage - I couldn't crack 20mpg coasting downhill. It was nowhere near advertised. The engine is essentially the same displacement / power output of the 3.5 in the Explorer. The vehicle is essentially the same weight. Should have enjoyed better results.

Transmission / Engine- This probably answers the above question, but the programming of the shift points is horrible. If you step out to pass, or even want to mildly accelerate off the line, be ready to kiss the red line. It also sounded raspy when pushed.

Moonroof - No power shade?? NO SHADE? The dual moonroofs have manual mesh screens (similar to the Flex). How the hell is this allowed in this expensive of a vehicle? Caused a sunburn on all of us on our drive down to Corpus. Just poor quality.

That's it.

The wife likes the handling, power, mileage, sync, etc. etc. turning radius...don't want this anymore...blah blah. So. There.

It's strange, the differences between the GM and the Ford transmissions. The six speed transmission used in both was a joint venture, with GM and Ford. We owned a Traverse and now an Edge. World of difference in the shift points and the feeling between the two.

The Edge is so much better than the Traverse was transmission wise. The Explorer has the same transmission as the Edge from what I found on line.

Let's throw this out there as a plus in the Acadia over the Explorer -

The Acadia's rear seat entertainment system is integrated with the factory. In park you can view the same thing on the front screen as the back. You can also get 5.1 Dolby Surround out of the system. Looking at the Lockpick module, the Acadia version as an input for an iPod and would play video off the iPod to the screens. The Explorer version...no. So, something to get to work on. The days of the flimsy Wal-Mart portable DVD players in a $40,000+ vehicle are gone.

We're still trying to figure out whether we should buy tablets to mount on the headrests or what.

For a trip from Boston to Florida and back to see family, I set up an in-car wireless network with a $50 router, a USB drive loaded with 30+ hours of movies, and the family iPads.

You'll need a file browser app on the tablets and to set the tablets to recognize the router's IP address.

Each kid could chose a movie independently of the other, and headphones made for a peaceful drive... ;)

The only reason we were considering the Apple line was we thought you could sync two iPads to play the same video at the same time. Apparently not, so, with that thought, we'll just end up buying nice Android tablets for a fraction of the cost.

Boy does she look familiar...

Enjoy it!

Are you sure about this? This is the first I've heard of that. There was a joint venture with the 8 and 9 speed transmissions with GM that kind of fizzled out but never heard anything about a joint venture on the 6 speed.
