Depends somewhat on whether you want to use a laptop or smartphone or maybe both. OBDlink makes one for USB, one for Bluetooth, and also one with WiFi and Bluetooth.
I believe forscan does not work with Bluetooth which explains why it doesn't work with my eBay elm327 adapter. If your using iPhone it seams like the majority of the programs only use wifi. If you have an android torque is good and works with Bluetooth but from what I've seen forscan wins hands down. If you plan on strictly using a lab top I would go USB. Nothing beats a wired connection but would drive me nuts personally. the covience of wifi and using a phone or tablet with no wires is nice. I will say using torque on two different android devices I get different readings. Not just an rpm or two I'm talking 19in/hg pressure vs. 50. Could be the cheap adapter or the or the device itself.
Thanks for the info. I guess I was wrong forscans website says it works with Bluetooth but the app says you must have a wifi enabled adapter. I tried the free version on an android and it wouldn't connect as well as the full version on a lap top. but for $5 I'll give it a shot on my iPhone and then replace the adapter if necessary. I'll also try to mod my current one and see if that helps
