stock is like 90 amp

the "Limited" model came with a 130 amp, that's what I have ran on mine and I run a lot of lights. I wouldn't upgrade unless yours failed.

I believe Maniak who puts a lot of miles on his 1st didn't get so much life out of the 130 amp vs. the 90 amp, but if you don't mind taking it back after 30,000 miles you can get a lifetime warranty at autozone for a pretty good price.

lol yes mine is running around 11 volts right now when running. enough to get me home but not nearly enough to charge the ol' battery. alt. has failed.

i dont mind taking it back. i hope to put a v8 in it in the next year or so anyhow. but i was thinkin something even bigger ive heard of liek 180amps or something like that. anyone know of any of these companies that are making the after market non-OEM alts?

thanks
-chris

You left the original wiring with that, you just added the 3 extras on top of what you already had, correct?

As far as I know, I had a 90 amp alternator with a smaller pulley. I still haven't been able to find what that pully came off of. I never looked at a 130 amp alternator pully. My problem was many miles on the freeway. at somewhat high rpm. I kept killing bearing...

There are lots of companies that do larger alts, Ohio Generators, Iraggi Alts, Mean Grean, Excessive Amperage, and prolly a few others, I am curious about the Ebay "180 amp" alts, so if anyone has experience please share. On a side note, is that 90 amps we have at idle? Or Max?

if you go to the either the performance lighting or the audio(can't remember which) forum there is a sticky for listing high output alternators. Should be good info

And I believe thats 90 amps at maximum.

amps!

I have (4) 60 watt lamps, (4) 50 watt, (2) 100 watt laps and 2 12" JLB subs on a 450 watt amp and i run my truck on batt or running off the alt and i have never had a problem with power. I'm rockin a 94' limited, as i have pulled from the forums.. the limited has a larger alt then the 'norms'.. I couldn't justify getting a larger alt at all.. so if you don't have a the larger limited alt i would invest in one of those.

i would look into seeing if you could get one form a local 'junk' yard.. not worth getting 'new' off the inter-web that isn't OEM.

use the 130 amp alternator the were used on the limiteds and on vans and trucks with the 5.0 and ac thats how i got mine 4 free now my guage never drops at all

i've often thought on this subject. i have a 90amp alternator and it's starting to fail. 130amp would be nice, an additional 40 amps is almost 50% more then what i have now.

i ordered mine from summit and it already had the correct pulley installed (130amp)

A 130 amp alt will not be enough to power both the stereo and the engine. The 1600w sub alone can draw OVER 130 amps continuously.

Look for a 200 amp, that way you'll have enough power to run your truck, charge your battery, listen to the stereo, and even use the headlights at night, lol.

I got mine from mralternator.com and I'm happy with everything but the price.

im pretty sure i've settled ongettin a higher amperage alt. so any persoanl experiecne from anyone would b very helpful and im concernced abotu the pulley questions arising. if i purchase a larger amperage alt. for my application. am i goin to need to change any pulleys?!

-thanks again
chris

Unless you are underdriver, there should be no need for a different alternator pulley.
